Countries of the World Manila Through My Eyes - Special Mentions
This area is for places or establishments either inside or outside Manila that I think deserves a special spotlight. This section will be probably updated every now and then, whenever I discover a new place so just keep your eyes peeled.
Baguio is a popular summer destination in the Philippines because the climate here is a bit cooler compared to the other places in this country. There are a lot of things that you can do here and in fact, Baguio's economy is mainly centered on tourism. It is also a popular place for immigrants.
Chinatown
I know, I know. I already talked about Binondo's Chinatown, but I really like this place, I can't resist putting it here. You can try this walking tour that is popular to both tourists and Filipinos alike Binondo Food Wok. If you want a experience it alone, you can also buy a food map from them.
Chinese Cemetery
This is the Manila Chinese Cemetery located in Sta. Cruz. It is the second oldest cemetery in Manila. I swear, some of the mausoleums even have air conditioning! A lot of the mausoleums has such elaborate and interesting structures, I recommend going there for something different.
Coconut Palace
The Coconut Palace was commissioned by the former first lady Imelda Marcos for Pope John Paul II's visit in 1981. The Pope declined staying in the Coconut Palace, however it served as a guest house for other noted people. I think you can rent the place for parties and stuff. The Coconut Palace truly showcased the versatility of coconut and the Filipino ingenious.
Little Tokyo
If you like Japanese food, Little Tokyo in Makati won't disappoint. It's a strip of Japanese restaurants owned by Japanese nationals, so you're sure you're getting the real thing. Even the architecture of the place gives off a Japanese feel. The prices are priced higher than the average meal though (me and my friends like to say the meals here are Japanese priced).
SM Mall of Asia
There are a lot of great malls here in the Philippines, but you can probably forego going to them all, except SM Mall of Asia! Everything you can find in other malls here in the Philippines you can probably find it here and more. Another thing that makes visiting this place worth the trip is the bay area.
Museo Pambata
I loved going to Museo Pambata (Museum for Children) as a kid. I haven't gone there for a while, but I'm sure it's worth going to, especially if you're traveling with kids. It is located in Ermita, Manila.
Rizal Park
Rizal Park is probably the most famous park here in the Philippines. There are a lot of attractions inside (or near) the park, so I encourage everyone to visit it. It's probably best to go there during daytime though (you can see lovers everywhere at night).
Vigan
I haven't been here personally, but I desperately want to visit this place. How can anyone resist those cobbstones? Vigan is located in the province of Ilocos Sur. It is a World Heritage Site, and it's main attractions are it's cobblestone streets and unique Philippine-Colonial European architecture.
