At first some informations about the language in general:
German is not only the offical language of Germany, but also of other countries such as Austria, Swiss, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Belgium and Italy.
It's the first language of nearly 100 million people and it is spoken as a second or third language by about 80 million people.
German belongs to the Indo-European languages, so it's related to English, Dutch, Icelandic, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, etc. |

About the pronunciation:
I've created a writing to explain the pronunciation of the German words as good as possible.
A like "u" in but
A: the same as A, but longer
Ä like "a" in and
B the same as in English
D the same as in English
E like "e" in Ben
E: the same as E, but longer
F the same as in English
G always like "g" in good
H the same as in English
I like "i" in in
I: like "ee" in green
K the same as in English
L the same as in English
M the same as in English
N the same as in English
O like "o" in pot
O: like O, but longer, not as "o" in hello!!!
Ö like "eu" in the French word adieu
K the same as in English
Q like "kw" (w = wine)
R either pronounced in the fauces or with the tip of the tongue
S voiceless "s" like "c" in centre
S< voiced "s" like in is
SH like "sh" in shape
TSH like "ch" in chance
T the same as in English
U like "oo" in book
U: like "oo" in ooze
Ü like "u" in the French word une
W like "w" in wine
X nearly like "j" in the Spanish pronunciation
Y the same as in English
' is written before the stressed syllable |
