Characters from 'The Adventures of Merlin'

Merlin is bright, witty, humorous, and brave.
He doesn't want power or treasure.
He wants only for his friends to know who he really is.

He was raised by his mother in a small village called Ealdor. And he grew up friendless and lonely, for his magical powers were to be kept secret. He didn't know his father and his mother never spoke of it, so he discovered at an older age who his father was.
He was then sent to the court physician of Camelot, Gaius, by his mother in her hopes that Gaius would understand Merlin and his powers and take him under his care.
He saved the life of the king's son, Arthur Pendragon in episode one 'The Dragon's Call', and, as a reward, was appointed as his manservant. How Uther Pendragon thought that was a reward, I know not, but nevertheless, it turned out to for the best.

Arthur is arrogant, trustworthy, noble and proud.
He calls Merlin stupid, scared and useless,
but the fact that he'd scour the five kingdoms for him betrays all.

Arthur Pendragon was raised by his father in a huge city called Camelot. He never knew his mother, and his father never talks about her, so, like Merlin, he didn't know who she was until a late age. If his father, the king, forbids him to do something he wants to do, Arthur will go right ahead and do it.
Arthur is a great warrior and knight.
He's masterful with a sword and shows a good example of what a knight should be like. He boasts a lot about himself and he and Merlin occasionally get into short arguments, usually ending up in Merlin having to muck out his horses.
But all in all, Arthur is a strong and noble warrior who would lay down his life for his people in an instant.

Gaius

Guardian of Merlin and Court Physician.
This man lacks idealism and is always ready to make you feel better.
He sticks to what is right and how the world should turn.
He's been with Merlin since the first episode, 'The Dragon's Call'
How many times he's saved Merlin's neck, I don't know,
but I do know that if Gaius had not been the man he is and hadn't stuck to purely THAT,
then perhaps everything in Camelot would have changed for the worst.

Gwen
Guinevere is a loyal and faithful servant to Uther Pendragon's ward.
She is kind and knows what the people want,
she's also very wise and does what's right.
In the first couple episodes, it seems like Gwen and Merlin might fall in love,
and then everything changes when Arthur kisses her in 'The Once and Future Queen'.
Later they then pronounce their love, but Uther believes that
Gwen enchanted Arthur.

For how could a prince love a serving girl?
Anyhow, things slowly work out and later, after Uther dies,
Arthur intends to make her his queen.

Morgana
The lady Morgana is a beautiful and scared woman.
She suffers from horrible nightmares and after she finds out she has magic, everything changes.
For the worst.
She finds out she has a half-sister. An evil witch who is a high priestess of the Old Religion.
Morgana then becomes under the influences of her and slowly transforms into something not-so-nice.
Then, after she figures out some things that should not have been figured out, she announces her hatrid for the king and breaks his heart in two.
Then she leaves and lives in the forest, scheming of her next great plan to take the throne of Camelot for her own.

Uther

Uther Pendragon is the king of Camelot.
He has a relatively short temper that can push him to do things that he really doesn't want to do.
Many people see him as a blood-thirsty tyrant who kills everyone and everything magic-related.
For the most part, that's true. But he's really just a king who's broken and bitter from losses in the past,
and thinks it strong to destroy magic altogether.

When Uther's mind is set, it's hard to change, although some people, like Morgana, Arthur and Gaius have the power to bend it after several failed attempts.
Uther is the king of Camelot,
and all he wants is for his kingdom to be safe against magic.
He failed to see that not all magic is so horrible, and that was his downfall.
The Knights of Camelot
CAUTION:
THE PAGE BELOW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!

"I have fought alonside you many times, there is no one who I would rather die for..."
-Sir Leon

Sir Leon is one of the longest serving knights Camelot has ever had.
That alone portrays his loyalty, his good heart.
He's been a knight under Uther and now is a knight of Arthur's reign.
Sir Leon shows a good example of what a loyal knight and friend should be,
and he would put down his life without hesitation for his king.

"He just happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time,"
-Gwen

Sir Elyan started out as nothing more but a magnet for trouble.
Until he reunited with his sister, Guinevere, and was brought back to Camelot.
Arthur then made him and several others Knights of Camelot,
and from there he's become less of a conductor.

Elyan is rebellious, and has two sources of which he puts his loyalty in:
Gwen and Arthur.
After her banishment, Gaius and Sir Leon fear Arthur will think Elyan's loyalties have altered.
If anything were to happen to Gwen of Arthur's doings, which one would he go to?

"Your enemies are my enemies."
-Percival

Sir Percival was one of the men whom Arthur made Knights in episode 'The Coming of Arthur'.
He first appeared with Lancelot and showed his strength and goodness through there.
He's a man of few words and much muscle,
and also has a great sense of humor.

"Sir Lancelot, the bravest and most noble of them all,"
-Kilgharrah

Sir Lancelot was a close friend of Merlin and the first love of Guinevere. A good man, he was devoted to helping his friends and doing what is right. Little is known of his earlier life, but we do know that he lost his family sometime before and that he must have been wandering around before he entered Camelot. He was one of the first people to know of Merlin's magic and kept his secret expertly.
When he first met Guinevere, he loved her from the start,
but later when she reverted to Arthur for love, he left so that he would not come between them.
That alone shows his worth and his selflessness.

"And that's Sir Gwaine to you!"
-Gwaine

Gwaine is portrayed as laid back, fun-loving man who has a slightly reckless and carefree way of doing things. He is extremely loyal and is of noble heart and blood, although in his first meeting Arthur knew his nobility of blood not.
He generally does not like people of noble blood, finding them power-hungry, greedy and selfish.
Gwaine has a very trusting nature, largely seeing the best in people and forming a fast friendship with Merlin. He also has a good sense of humour, frequently seen to be the orchestrator of jokes among the knights, talks constantly on quests, can drive anyone up the wall with his endless chatter and is ever-cheerful and optimistic.
