It's award season time again!
After what feels like the movie industry spending the last 2 years regrouping and learning how to work through COVID, the 2022 Oscars feels like we’re finally back, to a new normal that is. I thought It’d take longer for streaming to dominate but here we are in a world where a movie, if lucky, is in theaters for a mere 2 MAYBE 3 months before hitting a streaming platform 1 month or so after its initial release. Kids today will never understand the struggle of having to wait 3-6 months AFTER the movie was no longer in theaters before it was released on DVD.
This year's selection of best picture nominees clearly shows that film is back, both the blockbusters we love to turn our brains off to watch and the thought-provoking Oscar-bait films most people love to hate.
Of the 10 my personal favorite is Avatar: The way of water, while I was wildly entertained and captivated by James Cameron's continuous world-building I don’t think this film is worthy of winning best picture. While I haven’t seen Women Talking, Triangle of Sadness, or All Quiet on the Western Front, my vote as of now would go to Banshees of Inisherin. |
