Chao mung in Vietnam !

Chao mung ! Welcome here !
My name is Lucile and I am from France.
I will present you Vietnam a beautiful country located in South-East Asia.

This is the national flag of Vietnam.

MARCH TO THE FRONT

Soldiers of Vietnam, we go forward,
With the one will to save our Fatherland,
Our hurried steps are sounding on the long and arduous road.
Our flag, red with the blood of victory, bears the spirit of our country.
The distant rumbling of the guns mingles with our marching song.
The path to glory passes over the bodies of our foes.
Overcoming all hardships, together we build our resistance bases.
Ceaselessly for the people's cause let us struggle,
Let us hasten to the battlefield!
Forward! All together advancing!
Our Vietnam is strong, eternal.

Soldiers of Vietnam, we go forward!
The gold star of our flag in the wind
Leading our people, our native land, out of misery and suffering.
Let us join our efforts in the fight for the building of a new life.
Let us stand up and break our chains.
For too long have we swallowed our hatred.
Let us keep ready for all sacrifices and our life will be radiant.
Ceaselessly for the people's cause let us struggle,
Let us hasten to the battlefield!
Forward! All together advancing!
Our Vietnam is strong, eternal.
Vietnam is a country under China, near Cambodia and Laos.
Vietnam, with Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Burma formed Indochina. It had its independence on September 2nd 1945.
There was a great war in Vietnam, between the South of Vietnam ( and also 40 countries in the world like the U.S.A. ) and the North of Vietnam ( and also China and USSR ). This war started in february of 1959 and finished in 1975. There were around 2 000 000 dead, 3 000 000 wounded and around 1 218 000 Vietnamese refugees.
Vietnam has a surface of 331 100 km2. Its capital is Hanoi, located in the North of the country. There are 83 017 000 Vietnamese who all speak Vietnamese.

The national language of Vietnam is Vietnamese. This language is only spoken in this country. It is a very difficult language to learn because there are many differents sorts of accents.

But it is uses the Latin alphabet ( A, B, C, ...).
I found a site where you can learn this language :
here (or another site for the people who speak French).
French and English are also spoken in Vietnam.

The Ao dai is the traditional dress of Vietnam. It can be an uniform for the high school girls. But also a dress just for the greats occasions like the Vietnamese New Year.

Vietnam has around 5 religions : Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Protestantism, ...

... Taoism and other religions.

The monuments :

This is the imperial city of Hué.

The major part of the dwellings built in the enclosure of the citadel constitutes the Imperial City. Beautiful residences were built by the Mandarin and the middle-class men with the service of the Nguyên. These houses had the majesty of those which one we can admire today in Hoi An. Hué was then one of the most beautiful towns of all the South Asia. Unfortunately, the two last wars almost entirely destroyed these beautiful residences.

Built between 1920 and 1931, the mausoleum of king Khai Dinh escapes from traditional architecture from the royal palates from the dynasty from Nguyen. It mixes three currents: French (in volumetry, materials and method of construction), Asian (provision of the elements of the worship and decoration) and champa (decorative lines, planks and arrows of the obelisks of character hindouist). The unit reflects a monumentality as well as an exceptional aesthetic quality.

Along Bay ( or Halong Bay ).

It is a stretch of water from approximately 1 500 km² located at the north of Vietnam, in the Gulf of Tonkin, near China and to 170 km in the east of Hanoi. It is skirted by a coast of 120 km.

This is the Sapa fall.

There is a great marcket in this city ( Sapa ), which is located at 400 km from Hanoi, in mountains. There, all the ethnic minorities are present and all wear the traditionals costumes.

The Mekong forms in Vietnam a very fertile delta, very rich pole of agricultural and especially rice production. The Mekong delta covers 55 000 km² and lodges 18 million inhabitants. Its principals cities are Can Tho, Chau Doc and My Tho.

Near Hanoï, in the Tonkin delta, intensive rice growing is practised under difficult natural conditions, with poor grounds and irregular rains. The irrigation is not easy, because the lower course of Sông Hông and its distributaries was dammed up, because of the violence of the risings. Work allowed the development of the delta, but made unusable the water of the river for the irrigation up to one very recent time. The peasants were to be satisfied to convey the water of the ponds or the brooks to the rice plantations by rudimentary means.

Ho Chi Minh city :

Ho Chi Minh city is situated in the South of the country, on Saigon river, near the Mekong delta. It is an economic metropolis, the first city in the country with an important seaport. If we include the industrial zone, all the sectors are represented : craft industry, industry (paper, plastic, textile, glass, machine tools, chemistry, building materials) and services. Ho Chi Minh city is served by important roads, railways and air ways.
The city has many pagodas, a great mosque, a hindu temple and an university.
Ho Chi Minh city has been occuped by the French in 1859 and it has been rebuilt in an european style.
There are around 3 600 000 inhabitants in this city.

Hanoi :

Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam, located in the North of the country. It is an important industrial center ( mechanical engineering, industry chemical, textile, agroalimentary and ceramic ) with its fluvial port.
Hanoi has around 19 universities and it has lots of museums like the museum of the revolution and the army.
The city has been bombarded by Americans in 1972 and between 1966 and 1968, 40 % of the population evacuate because there was the war of Vietnam.
Today, there are around 1 000 000 inhabitants ( without the agglomeration ).

Vietnam is a poor country, then you can help a Vietnamese child ( or from another country like Cambodia ) by giving money or by sponsoring a child. My mother is sponsoring a young Thai girl who lives in the mountains and has a really poor family and my mother gives around 22 euros by months which is not enormous. This association, which helps Vietnamese, Thai, Laotians, Filipinos and Cambodians families, has a website but it is in French :
here .

Vietnam is a country with many ethnies. The population is mainly Vietnamese ( 80% / 90% of the population ) and Chinese ( 3% of the population ) and the other part of the population is ethnic : the Hmong , ...

... the Khmer ( here on the photo ) , the Thai, the Meos, ...

... the Muong ( here on the photo ), the Mans and the Cham.

The Vietnamese currency is the Vietnamese Dong.

1 Dong = 100 xu.

It exits 4 differents cuisines in Vietnam :
- Cuisine of the North ( Examples : phở gà, soup of chicken, mi xào, noodles of corn fried with varied trimming, or chả cá, fried fish ).
