We Are Robin Hood - Characters

Robin of Locksley
(Jonas ArmStrong)
"But where would be the fun in that?"

Robin of Locksley's name: Robin Hood, came about in the episode
'Parent Hood' when two soldiers are loading a cart and smirking to each other about Robin.
One of them makes a snide remark and says,
'Robin of Sherwood!' then 'Robin Wood!'

It's not hard to think about how the 'hood' came about in his name,
as in the first episode of Robin Hood 'Will You Tolerate This?'
he wears a hood when he threatens the sheriff's men as they punish
a man caught hunting in a part of the forest.

Robin Hood's favorite weapon is a Saracen bow,
but he is equally as masterful with a sword as he is with a bow.
In season 1 and 2 Robin appears lithe and lean and wears a tan jerkin with a hood attached to it.
In season 3, however, Robin appears stronger and wears a heavy ornate leather jacket most of the time.
He also has shorn away his head of hair, losing his boyish look.

Much
(Sam Troughton)
"This...is an ambush!"

Much is Robin's right-hand man and, dare I say, the highlight of the gang.
He's often though of as daft and is forever committed to Robin and his hungry belly.
Much often complains that he has to both cook and catch the meal, and likes order in the camp.

Much is frequently fearful, but at other times, he's the voice of reason.
He rambles when he's scared and often doesn't stop
when he's not scared so gets the words 'shut up' directed at him a lot.
His favorite weapon is a short sword and shield and is very quick when in a fight.

Much wears a piece of cloth about his head and has a scruffy red beard along his face.
Much is probably the least popular to the people of Nottingham who know Robin's gang.
In the episode 'A Good Day to Die', Much shares his fears that he's looked at as a slave
and is unimportant to Robin and his gang.

Royston White
(William Beck)
"My name is Roston White.
I fight for Robin Hood and King Richard!"

I can honestly say that Royston White has always been my favorite character.
Although Much and Robin are close behind, no one can beat Roy.
He thinks of himself as tough and surly, but in episode 'Parent Hood'
he shows his sensibility when he is forced to kill Robin or watch his mother hang.

His favorite weapon is a mace, his best friend his Little John
and before he joined Robin's gang, he thought of himself a dead man.
Roy is a loyal, if rebellious, independent man who has a dry sense of humor.

When he died in 'Parent Hood', I almost punched a hole in the wall.
And even though I was so angry and sad that he'd died,
t'was one of the most honorable deaths I've ever seen.

Little John
(Gordon Kennedy)
"Him, I liked."

Little John has been around since day number one and has been a huge part of Robin Hood.
He's big as a bear and is as rough as one but underneath he hides a huge heart.
He's strong, practical and instinctive in battle. He also knows a lot about how to live in the forest.

He has a wife named Alice and a son named John Little, after himself.
His favorite weapon is a staff, but he's good with his fists as well.
Little John has an authority, even over Robin himself at times, and the gang respect him as
second-in-command.

Why, I think, Little John is so likable is because he doesn't change much.
I didn't like how Robin changed, in appearance or inside,
and Little John doesn't change in either aspect.
His hair does grow longer in season 3, but nothing else is so different that its worth the words.

Allan A Dale
(Joe Armstrong)
"I'm good with nuns."

Allan A Dale is a cheeky trickster and often gets his loyalties mixed up.
Before he became part of Robin's gang, he would probably be on your list of men you didn't trust,
but feeding the poor showed him the good things in life, and changed his rusty ways.
Or so we thought...

His favorite weapon is the long bow, but he uses a sword as well.
He doesn't have any family that we know of, but in the first episode,
'Will You Tolerate This?', to escape arrest he babbles that his wife is pregnant and he needs food.
We know this to be a lie, though he fooled the men who captured him.

Allan A Dale is a thin, tall man with bright and shining eyes.
Money is his weakness, and he's a master at talking himself out of trouble.
And even though he's a tricky one to trust, after a tough series of events, he gains the gang's firm trust.

Will Scarlet
(Harry Lloyd)
Will Scarlet is the son of an old friend of Robin's.
When he and his younger brother are to be hanged for helping a boy to steal flour,
they think Robin will save them. Alas, he does nothing.
Or so they think...
The noose is slipped over their necks and three bodies start flailing violently.
Robin charges through and shoots three arrows at each of the ropes.
One by one the boys fall and the surrounding townspeople scramble to help the boys get away.
And that is about all the information you need to know that Will Scarlet is loyal.

Will is practical, kind, loyal and trustworthy.
He never lets you down, and he'll always watch your back in a fight.
His favorite weapon is an ax, but he's got a good hold on a range of different weapons.
Although Will is quiet and doesn't make us laugh like Much or Allan,
he's still a great character in Robin Hood.

In episode, 'Turk Flu', a Saracen woman who was captured
and meant to be put to work in the mines, is saved by Robin and his gang.
She later asks if she can join the gang and nobody objects.
At the end of Season 2 when Robin and his gang travel to the Holy Lands to warn the king,
Djaq and Will marry and choose to stay in Djaq's hometown.

Djaq
(Anjali Jay)
"So I admire you. All of you. You are good men.
Brave, generous, kind, decent men. And I love you, all of you.
And I am proud to be amongst you.
...And you're filthy, and you really stink, and you have no souls. I have to be honest!"

Djaq is unique, ferocious, hilarious, kind and
has a special talent for worming secrets out of you.
When she joins the gang Allan and Will seem to fancy her.

She later admits that Djaq is not her real name, but rather her twin brother's.
Her favorite weapon is a Saracen sword that, to me,
resembles that of a Samurai sword.

Djaq has a strange sense of leadership above even Robin at times,
and the other members of the gang respect her highly.
Later in episode 'A Good Day To Die', she admits that although she loves all of them,
she does love Will even more.
