CAPYBARAS
also known as Water Hogs and Charpinchos, are the world's largest rodent. They reach an average lenghth of 4 ft. (or 1.2 m), stand around 20 inches (51 cm)tall, and weigh 75-100 lbs (or 34-68kg). Capybaras are found in South and Central America. They are vegetarian and occasionaly steal melons and squash from gardens. They have webbed feet which make Capybaras very good swimmers. They are hunted for their hide that is used for clothing.


THE ASIAN ELEPHANT
is a mammal found throughout India, Indochina, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and southern China. It feeds mostly on green leaves, fruit, and young plants. The elephant tears off the soft bark of young trees and puts it into its mouth with the trunk. The Asian elephant needs over 300 puonds of food a day. If for some reason it isn't able to use its trunk, it will die. A socialable animal, the Asian Elephant protects other group members. Adults surround the young when they are in danger. Girl elephants adopt orphaned calves, or young elephants, and members stay to assist shot or hurt elephants, often putting themselves at risk.

Weight: Up to 11,000 lbs.

THE BUSH BABY
with its large round eyes and big ears, the Bush Baby is one of the weirdest looking animals of the African bush. Capable of leaping in great distances, it often apears to fly among the treetops. There is 4 kinds of Bush Baby, of which Senegal Galago, or lesser bush baby, Is the most widespread. All 4 species are found in Africa south of the Sahara, but not in rainforest areas. The Bush Baby is a nocturnal animal. During the day as many as 20 may crowd together in an enclosed space, like a hollow tree trunk. At dusk, the awake and split into family groups and search for food. Bush Babies usually eat Insects, Flowers, Pollen, honey, seeds, fruit, lizards, mice, and nestlings. The Bush Babies lifespan varies.

DID YOU KNOW?...

Because Bush Baby's call sounds so much like a excited child, British explorers gave it its English name.
