| WHO WAS JOHN DALTON??
John Dalton(1766-1844)was born in cumberland, England. For most of his life John worked as a teacher/public lecturer, begining at his local school at the age of 12. After 10 years working as a teacher at Quaker bording school in Kendal he decided to take up a teaching job at the city of Manchester. Here in Manchester he joined the Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society. This provided him with a very stimulating intllectual envioriment to work in. It also ment he could work in laboratory facilities. He delivered his first paper to the society about colour blindness which was named "Daltonism" after Dalton. Dalton found his interest in the atom through meteorology, in which he was seriously interested in. He kept wether reports from 1787 onwards until his death. |
