I get it. Nesekem, the Herald has a bad reputation. It’s been labeled the worst Mythic in Diablo 4 for so long that most players just ignore it entirely. But here’s the thing—I don’t think it’s bad. I think we were just using it wrong.
The mark mechanic? It’s situational. It’s not a constant damage buff like other Uniques. But that doesn’t mean it’s useless. You just need to build around burst windows instead of consistent uptime. Once I realized that, I changed how I approached the weapon.
I started using cooldown-based burst builds that line up with the mark’s timing. Instead of chasing the meta, I focused on elite hunting and boss melting. I paired it with Chaos-rolled utility gear, pushed Crit and Overpower, and leaned into the mark mechanic’s strengths.
Guess what? It worked.
It’s not about meta or tier lists. It’s about understanding how to make your gear work for you. And now that Chaos Uniques give us access to stronger supporting gear, Nesekem doesn’t have to carry the whole build anymore. It just has to do its job—and it does that just fine.
So if you’ve got a dusty Nesekem sitting in your stash, maybe give it a second chance. Diablo 4 is a game about experimentation, and sometimes the most fun you’ll have is going against the grain. You can learn more now from u4gm. |

Building around Nesekem, the Herald used to feel like a challenge for the sake of challenge. But I’m not the kind of player to give up on something just because the meta says it’s bad. So when Season 10 dropped and gave us Chaos Uniques, I saw an opportunity.
The key to making Nesekem work is accepting what it does offer, rather than what it lacks. You’re getting guaranteed crits and Overpower hits every few seconds, plus high base damage against elites. So I built a high-attack-speed Spiritborn that prioritizes Vulnerable uptime, Crit Chance, and Overpower scaling.
My current build uses:
Nesekem, the Herald (main weapon)
Loyalty's Mantle as Chaos helm
Band of First Breath for healing utility
Wushe Nak Pa rolled as gloves
Tons of Crit/Overpower stats across Paragon
It’s not top-tier in raw DPS, but the spikes are incredible. When that mark lands on a priority target and I unload, it’s over. I’ve killed dungeon bosses in under 15 seconds with the right setup. It’s incredibly satisfying, and more importantly—it’s different. It doesn’t feel like I’m running the same Spiritborn build as everyone else.

I’ll admit, I was one of the players who completely wrote off Nesekem, the Herald. For all of Season 9 and even before that, it felt like a waste of a Mythic slot—like Blizzard gave us a shiny toy that didn’t do anything meaningful. But now, with Season 10’s Chaos Uniques? Everything’s changed.
The Chaos system is one of the best things to happen to Spiritborn. For the first time, we’re not locked into the awful choice between “Do I want Rod of Kepeleke or Wushe Nak Pa?” You can have both now—in different gear slots.
So when I realized I could run Rod of Kepeleke as a helm and Wushe Nak Pa as gloves, suddenly Nesekem opened up as a legit option for my weapon slot. And once I built around it with a proper Chaos setup, it actually started to shine.
Here’s how I made it work: I focused on stacking damage against Vulnerable and Elite enemies, then timed burst windows with cooldowns to coincide with the mark. It’s still random, but when the mark does land on a priority target, you melt them instantly. Boss fights in particular feel way smoother than I expected.
The damage output is there. The survivability is there. And best of all? It feels fun again. That’s not something I’ve been able to say about Nesekem since launch.
This isn’t to say it’s suddenly top-tier. It’s still a situational weapon that needs the right gear around it. But if you were like me and had tossed it in the stash never to be touched again, now might be the time to pull it back out. Season 10 finally gave us the build diversity Spiritborn needed—and Nesekem’s back in the conversation. You can learn more now from u4gm. |

Hello, I’m really fascinated by Victorian England. I read all of Oliver Twist before watching Oliver so I think that’s what got it started… I have a fountain pen and one of my favorite films is Enola Holmes (I also read the books).
