Primary school - "Worldwide cultural exchange"

Hello,

I have a world cultures club with kids from 9 - 11 years old in Falls Church, Virginia, USA, and we will soon begin sending "cultural packets" through the mail to countries around the world. We will be reading the book "Flat Stanley" which is about a boy that gets flattened to half an inch thick and then travels the world through the mail. We'd then like to make our own cardboard "Stanleys" dressed in clothing from our community with a little story about our lives in Falls Church and send them to other groups of kids around the world. We would love for your class to participate. We would hope that we would get the dolls back from you dressed in clothes from your town and with a story about daily life there. Please let me know if you would have any interest in this exchange.

High school - "Looking to Get Pen Pal Program Started"

I am a 10th Grade English Teacher at Eastside High School in Paterson, NJ. I am looking to get a pen pal program started for some of my classes. My students are approximately 15-16 years old. They are primarily Hispanic and African-American students living in an urban area. All of my students speak English and my Hispanic students all speak Spanish as well. The school, community, parents, and students are all struggling and have little resources compared to many suburban areas around them. The students really need a more international perspective on the lives of students their age around the world. More than 80 percent of my students entered 9th grade reading below their grade level so they could really use a fun project like this that they can connect to that will also help them practice writing at the same time. My students have little opportunity to travel outside of Paterson and this is a great opportunity for them to be exposed to more of the world and expand their horizons. They are a vibrant, outgoing, and caring group of students who would be extremely excited to make connections beyond their borders and learn more about the world around them. I would be thrilled to connect my students will a class outside of the United States but even just outside of Paterson, NJ would be a step in the right direction! My email address is jlynnwall@gmail.com so please feel free to contact me at anytime to discuss this further.

Primary school - "Music and Dance Around the World"

This whole idea began with the after school program, Heads Up, providing us with some African drums. Mr. Golinsky, our Physical Education teacher, and I teamed up to do a joint program of African drumming and dance. The students responded with eagerness and wonderful desire to learn. We reached out through numerous avenues, and were rewarded by getting in touch with a professional drum from Senegal. He helped with rhythmic ideas and techniques, for the age groups we were teaching. As a class, we even corresponded with him live over the internet via web cams. This program was such a success that Mr. Golinsky suggested that we expand the program to include world music, dance, and games.
In implementing this program, we discovered that our students were lacking in their education. In the elementary setting, a large emphasis is placed on reading and math, resulting in subjects like world cultures and geography to be almost non-existent. Our idea is to expose the children to different countries and cultures around the world; and what better way than through music and dance. This being such a rural county in West Virginia, many of the students don’t even leave the county let alone know anything of the world around them.
The elementary music and physical education areas receive no budget; therefore Mr. Golinsky and I are running the program without funds. Everything that we use is information that we can glean, from sources like the internet. It would be such a gift to be able to place a real instrument in the hands of the student instead of looking at a picture or to learn a game or dance that children play in another part of the world.
We would love to correspond with students in different counties and learn what life and the arts are like there, and with technology even talk to them. In these perilous times when the world is full of mistrust and hatred what a marvelous way to bridge the gap between our different cultures. We have plans to show the students the dress of the countries, and the possibility to even provide some cultural dress for our students to try. I think it would be a great benefit to both the elementary school and the college, to involve some of Glenville’s students; utilizing their own cultures, customs, and experiences from within and outside of the country. We plan to end the year with a small banquet serving dishes from the places we discovered and show our guests some of what we have learned.

Hello,

I'm a Homeschool Educator here in the States. Currently, I'm teaching my son, who is 15 and a 9th grader this year, and youngest daughter, who is a preschooler. I am 'supplementing' my eldest daughter's (11 and a 6th grader) education, though. As a result, they're now corresponding with others here and learning foreign languages. Primarily Spanish and German.

I, myself, am learning alongside of them. I am currently studying Italian and Scottish Gaelic, but am a true beginner in each. *grin*

I am happy to correspond with individuals from other countries to gain a wider, more worldly perspective, and would love to have the same experience for my children...

Warm Regards,
Dawna

Middle school - "Rugby pen pals"

Hi everybody my name is Dom, I live and work in New York City but i am originally from England.
I work for a non profit youth organization company (www.playrugbyusa.com) that uses rugby as a anti obesity tool and as a charcter and youth development program focusing on team work, honesty, discipline, respect, leadership, sportsmanship.
A lot of the schools we work in are from underserved areas and most of them had never even heard of rugby before they started playing. As NYC is so urban, we often use gyms, basketball courts and hard tops for classes so we play non contact flag rugby, all classes are co-ed.
We are looking to set up some of the schools we work in with other schools from rugby playing nations (AUS, NZ, South Africa, France, Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales or anywhere else)to become pen pals and discuss not only how and where they play rugby but also find out about each others culture and the differences in where they live. We have set up an interactive teacher moderated website for this purpose - more details on request.
If any teachers think they would like their students to join a pen pal scheme with schools based in NYC please get in touch. I personally think it could be a great experience for both schools, teachers and all students.

This ad is here only for those who are currently studying A Course In Miracles. Please do not reply unless you are actively studying the Course. I have dedicated a part of my life to assisting students because A Course In Miracles is not an easy spiritual pathway to follow. If you are curious what A Course in Miracles is about please search any of the many websites devoted to that explanation. One of them is www.facim.org. Again I ask please don't reply unless you are actively doing the self-study program and need help understanding A Course In Miracles. Thank you. From James Posted April 14, 2008.

Higher school - "For students of A Course In Miracles"

I have posted this to be truly helpful to those who are studying A Course In Miracles
around the world. If you are curious about what ACIM is please search the many websites that are currently available. If you are ACTIVELY engaged in the study of the Course and have questions, I will try to answer them. Again, this ad is for those people who have decided to study A Course In Miracles and have begun their study. About me, I began the Course in 1989 and studied under the guidance of Dr. Kenneth Wapnick of the Foundation for ACIM. The course is not easy, in fact it requires that you question everything you now believe. I don't recommend it for young people but would still support those of youth who have taken on the challenge. A Course In Miracles is very simple from one view, but also a very sophisticated, intellectual and complex undertaking. This is why I'm here, to help you after almost 2 decades of involement with A Course In Miracles.
