I'm a 6th grade world culture teacher in Houston, TX. I have a very diverse, interested group of students who are eager to learn about another culture. I will likely have about 120 to 130 students who will want to write letters, probably weekly or bi-weekly, sharing information about culture, traditions, daily life, school, etc. Perhaps we could include a small cultural gift exchange?
Any region outside North America is great! My students are mostly fluent in English and Spanish, but not other languages. Please email me soon, as I would like to have the project going for the 2010-2011 school year! Thanks!

I am looking for a class that would like to be pen pals for the upcoming school year. We will be trying this as a new project in our classrooms for the future project. |
I teach English/Reading to students in the 7th and 8th grades (ages 12-14). We are located in Texas, in the USA. English is my students first and only language, but a couple of them can also speak Spanish. I anticipate having around 24 students this year. Our first day of school is on August 23, 2010. Ideally, I want my students to strengthen and practice their communication skills this year by corresponding through email with other students around the world. We can do email and/or written letters. I want my students to be able to write back and forth with their penpal and discuss general things like: daily life, interests, cultures, books, and/or take part in a project. We have access to computers and other technology, and my students will also be using a blog this year to discuss books they will read. Thanks! |
We are a small rural school (K-5) in Western Maryland and we are looking to communicate with another school anywhere in the world. The primary focus would be on environmental education and comparing, sharing, and exploring our different eco-systems. Also to develop friendships and exchange differences in our cultures. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Greetings from the USA~
I have been teaching in a small, low income, school distrist in Central California for the past 13 years. The majority of this time has been spent teaching 3rd grade. I was just informed that I had finally past my State Test (LOL) and will be teaching 4th grade next year. The good news is that I will take my current 3rd grade students to 4th grade with me. I am very excited about this because we will be able to pick up right where we left off once we return from summer vacation. Now the challenge comes to find new and exciting activities for these students next year. I thought writing to penpals would be perfect!! I expect to have between 25-28 students next year. I would like to use "snail mail" because most of my students do not own a computer. I would be interested in having my students write to others from different countries, but would also be interested in students from the United States. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please contact me and maybe we can use the next few months to do some planning. Thanks, Danna 3rd grade teacher, soon to be 4th grade teacher, Winton, California |
I am a high school social studies teacher looking for one or two partner schools, preferably in a country that is different politically, economically and culturally different from the U.S.

This partnership would begin next September, but I'd like to do some planning in the next few months.
I hope to cross paths with you soon.

I teach a class based on the theories of Daniel Pink and Thomas Friedman. I specifically concentrate on the theme of "empathy," and we read "The Latehomecomer" and "A Long Way Gone" to help develop these themes. We also look into globalization as far as how it affects high school seniors in their job prospects and future. I am looking for students/classrooms elsewhere in the world for my students to collaborate and communicate with regarding these issues and themes.

We are a 3rd - 6th grade (ages 8-12) school in California looking for a sister school with which we can exchange class letters. Our plan is to have each of our classes exchange a single "group letter" with a class in a sister school Asia or Africa. We need to communicate in English, and would prefer to match classes of similar ages. Our school term ends June 11, and we would be back from summer vacation in late August, ready to continue our correspondence. You can learn more about us at our District website - www.pcoe.k12.ca.us

Our school started a "Read and Ride" program this year for students to ride exercise bikes while reading fun magazines and books. The students LOVE it! It's a bonus recess period during the day, so they are extra motivated to get the extra 15 minutes of activity. Teachers enjoy seeing the students so eager to read too.
Our goal was to receive 30 exercise bikes from individuals in our community, but we were able to get 41! We filled up one entire classroom for teachers to bring their class so every student can ride their own bike while they read. 11 classrooms have their own exercise bike in a corner for students to take turns reading and riding throughout the day, as a reward, or when they finish their work.
If you would like to start a program at your school, please visit our website: www.

Merci d'avance,

Most of the students are going into 5th grade this year, but there are many other younger & older students on the site, as well as students & teachers from several other countries. Hi,
Every year the Tehama County Library has a summer reading program. This program runs from the end of June to the first week of August. Our theme this year for the program is "Around the World". As part of the program the Children's Librarian would like to have a pen pal program via letters, not email.
Annually we have between 300-350 children participating in summer reading. Their ages vary from preschool aged to around 13. We are estimating that only some of our participates would want to be involved in this portion of the summer reading program.
Are there any other libraries or schools that would want to participate in this program with us? We could not guarantee a specific number of participates.
Thank you,
Melissa |
