Middle school - "Postcard Project"

This school year, your students have an opportunity to participate in an project that involves art and social studies. Students from around the world are asked to create a postcard about how they view the world around them. They can draw their home, school, city, state, country, etc. - whatever their world means to them. Once postcards are completed, they are mailed to our school. We will create an online catalog of all of the postcards received. In addition to that, all postcards will be put up for display at a local Barnes & Noble for the public to view. If you are interested in participating in this project, please email WestsidePostcards@gmail.com for more information. Thanks! -Jennifer

Middle school - "6th-8th grade Students seeking Pen Pals!"

I teach 6th-8th grade (ages 11-14) Pre-AP English & Reading at a small, rural school in Texas. I anticipate having around 47 students this year between the ages of 11-14. Our first day of school is August 24, 2011. We have access to computers and would be able to send emails occasionally, but I would prefer for my students to write letters (snail mail) to their pen pals. I want them to learn and practice the art of letter writing and last year they really enjoyed getting a real letter in the mail. My goal is for my students to strengthen and practice their communication skills while making new friends, and learning about different people and places at the same time. We would like to discuss daily life, interests, cultures, books, and/or take part in a project. We would like to send traditional letters through the mail, but we can also send emails once or twice a month.

High school - "Teacher in High School in Chicago_Looking for French penpals_"

Dear teachers,

I am a French teacher in a High School in Chicago. I have been teaching at Lane Tech for the past 12 years, a college preparatory high school, and one the top 3 public schools in the city. I have been thinking of initiating a 'French Pen Pal project" between my students and students from France in "Lycées". I know that many of my French students, who have been studying French for the past 3 years, would love to take on this new challenge, and to have the opportunity to speak directly with a native French speaker. Being able to communicate with another student of the same age abroad, and who share similar interests, is something that my students would be looking forward to do. Our students could talk about themselves and learn about their respective cultures more in depth, and improve their writing skills in both languages. My French students are mostly Junior and Seniors, and between the age of 16 and 17. These honors students are very competitive by nature and love to take on new challenges. I think that this project would be beneficial and exciting for our students on each side of the Atlantic, and it would be a new opportunity for them to enhanced their writing skills. I would love to hear your feedback about this project, and I sincerely hope that you will be considering this project between some of our students. My email adress is valcaryan@gmail.com

Best regards,

Mrs Caroline WARNER

Hi, I am looking for an Italian speaking high school in southern Switzerland for a cultural exchange. Our high school is located in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia (2.5 hr to DC). We have had several exchanges in northern Italy(for 12 years) and have to relocate. You could come to the US as early as fall 2010 (or whenever you wish; we have travel opportunities for 2 weeks (16 days over Easter break--homestay and travel). Please contact me if you are interested. Wild, wonderful West Virginia is waiting for you.

Nous aimerions aussi faire une correspondance avec Skype et/ou un voice board project sur un thème culturel.

High school - "International Business Project"

I am a high school business teacher of 16 students wanting to do an International Business Project with a class from a different country in our Entrepreneurship class. The students do not need to speak English, I can have a language class in our school translate if need be. Any ideas? Maybe my class can come up with possible import ideas or export ideas from our country or your country and you can do the same... I would welcome other ideas too. We can later "skype" a conversation between classes after they get to know one another... Just a thought.

My name is Mike and I am looking for a class to be pen pals with my after school educational club. Our school is from a low income neighborhood and they have to contend with a writing state assessment at the end of the year. I would love to have a school in the USA and a school outside of the country. The grade level would be 3rd-5th graders. Our school is Randall Elementary, and we are located in Independence Missouri. (Home town of President Harry Truman) I think it would be fun to also e-mail or try Skype. Please e-mail me if interested.
Thanks,
Mike

Greetings!

I teach Computer Science for Grades K-5. I have each class twice during the month, and I would like to find penpals for my Grades 3-5 classes. I have between 24-30 students per class, and I could easily assign 2 of my students to 1 of yours. I would like to correspond primarily through email AND (occasionally) snail mail.

This partnership will align with out study of different cultures/countries, and the overall theme that technology unites us all:).

Thanks!

Hola,

My name is Gabrielle and I am looking for a class to be pen pals with my 4th grade class. Our school is from a low income neighborhood and they have to contend with a writing state assessment at the end of the year. I was hoping to add some excitement to their practice by using a pen pal program. My student have been strugling with their writing skills for a while and I would really like to give them this oportunity. I'm not picky about the grade level. School starts Aug. 23 so a quick response is preferable.

Thank you,
