Teacher - Advantages
Teacher - Disadvantages
Teacher - Required Qualities
- Intrinsic Reward: The "lightbulb moment" when a student finally understands a difficult concept provides a level of fulfillment few other jobs can match.

- Long-Term Impact: You have the unique opportunity to shape the future by influencing the values, skills, and confidence of the next generation.

- Intellectual Engagement: To teach a subject well, you must master it. You are constantly learning and staying fresh in your field of expertise.

- Structured Calendar: While the workload is heavy, the predictable schedule of school holidays and summer breaks is a significant lifestyle perk for many.

- Job Stability: Education is a fundamental pillar of society. Skilled teachers are in high demand globally, offering excellent job security.

- Varied Workday: No two days—and no two students—are the same. The classroom is a dynamic environment that prevents professional stagnation.

- Creative Freedom: Within the curriculum, you have the autonomy to design lessons that are engaging, innovative, and tailored to your students' interests.

- Strong Sense of Community: Teachers often form deep bonds with colleagues, parents, and the local community, creating a supportive professional network.

- Developing Soft Skills: You become an expert in public speaking, conflict resolution, and leadership—skills that are valuable in every area of life.

- Global Portability: Teaching certifications are often recognized internationally, allowing for opportunities to teach in diverse cultures and countries
- Emotional Exhaustion: Caring for the academic and emotional well-being of 30+ students daily can lead to significant "compassion fatigue" and burnout.

- High Workload Outside Hours: Grading, lesson planning, and parent communication often bleed into evenings and weekends, despite the official "school day".

- Classroom Management Stress: Dealing with behavioral issues, lack of student motivation, or disruptions can be mentally and physically draining.

- Standardized Testing Pressure: In many systems, teachers are held accountable for student test scores, which can stifle creative teaching and increase anxiety.

- Administrative Burden: Even in 2026, paperwork, data tracking, and bureaucratic meetings take up a significant portion of a teacher's time.

- Salary vs. Effort Disparity: In many regions, the financial compensation for teachers does not reflect the high level of education required or the hours worked.

- Conflict with Parents: Navigating difficult conversations with parents who may have unrealistic expectations or disagree with teaching methods.

- Budgetary Constraints: Many teachers find themselves working with limited resources or spending their own money on classroom supplies.

- Physical Demands: Being "on" all day requires significant vocal strain and the stamina to be on your feet and active for hours at a time.

- Slow Institutional Change: Educational systems are often slow to adapt to new technologies or pedagogical theories, which can be frustrating for innovative teachers
- Patience: The ability to remain calm and supportive when students struggle, misbehave, or need concepts explained in multiple different ways.

- Adaptability: The skill to pivot a lesson plan instantly if students aren't engaged or if a technological tool fails.

- Empathy: Understanding the diverse backgrounds and emotional challenges students face to create a safe and inclusive learning environment.

- Strong Communication: Clearly articulating complex ideas to various age groups and effectively communicating with parents and peers.

- Organization: Managing the logistics of lessons, assignments, grading, and classroom resources for dozens or hundreds of students.

- Lifelong Learner Mindset: A genuine desire to keep up with new research, 2026 digital tools, and evolving educational theories.

- Enthusiasm: Passion for the subject matter is infectious; a teacher’s energy is often the primary driver of student engagement.

- Cultural Competency: Respecting and celebrating the diverse identities of students to ensure every child feels seen and valued.

- Problem-Solving Skills: Finding creative ways to reach students who have different learning styles or specific educational needs.

- Resilience: The "grit" to handle a difficult day in the classroom and return the next morning with the same level of care and dedication.

Teacher - "Future english teacher, I hope"

Hello everyone, I'm Jessie from France, I have 17 years old and next year I will be studying in college some asiatic languages (Korean, Chinese and Japanese) since I want to become a foreign english teacher in Asia. I really want to improve my Chinese, Korean and Japanese so if you want to talk with me, don't hesitate and send me a message. We can talk with email if you want, it's way easier. I hope you'll be interesting with the knowledge exchange, to my mind, we are children who want to build a greater world and teachers are one of the first, with the parents, to help children to build their own dream in order to become great citizens, so if you want to talk, to learn french or English and to help me with asiatic languages, I will be very glad !

Have a good day!

I agree that you should follow your current choice because you have only 1 year to finish. It seems suitable to follow your parents' advice because they have knowledge and experiences. After completing this course, I think it is not late to learn what you want, such as music and English. I love learning them too.

Screw your parents and do what makes you happy. Who cares if they are mad at first because they will get over it.

Hello Aurora! How are you? I read your thread about whether to change your major to English and music. I don't think you should change it, but I do think you should pursue in a major that you really like. It's important that you respect your parents and the advice they give you but to also do what you really like as well. So, I think you should finish college and then you could pursue a major in music, English or both, and then you can do something that you really like! Best of luck! -Amy ^-^
