Two of the four classes are Spanish speaking students who are taught language arts and social studies in English and math and science in Spanish. We would like to converse through email with other English speaking students to share thoughts and ideas on culture with other countries in order to participate in the Digital Learning Community. Sharing these ideas will help with our Content & Instruction as well as Digital Citizenship.
We can share thoughts and ideas on foods, clothing, environmental issues, traditions, holidays or anything else that the students might want to discuss. The aim of this project is to not create other assignments for them, but to just have them communicate ideas, and have opportunities to write. They can also share pictures or short video clips from their schools.

I teach Middle School Humanities at a small, private school in the United States, about an hour outside of Chicago. My students range in age from 10 to14, and each class consists of approximately 20 students. I would like my World Geography students in 7th grade (I am expecting 2 classes in 2018-2019) to exchange expository letters with student pen pals from a foreign nation. Ideally, their pen pals would be from different nations, but a class from a single country would keep the logistics more streamlined. We study political and physical geography, climate, natural resources, cultural customs, etc. We are in an urban area where some students have never left the city, let alone the country. I’ve never used pen pals before but believe exposure to someone their age could best relate what it’s like living elsewhere. Thank you. |

My students can't get their heads wrapped about the opposite seasons and that it's summer time in Australia for Christmas!
