35347 - from John (USA) - 2010-08-10 : "Middle School (Houston, TX)" I'm a 6th grade world culture teacher in Houston, TX. I have a very diverse, interested group of students who are eager to learn about another culture. I will likely have about 120 to 130 students who will want to write letters, probably weekly or bi-weekly, sharing information about culture, traditions, daily life, school, etc. Perhaps we could include a small cultural gift exchange? Any region outside North America is great! My students are mostly fluent in English and Spanish, but not other languages. Five of my students are getting prepared for the ECCE (B2 level) exams of the University of Michigan.They are aged 14-16. I was thinking of an oral communication via web camera with some students from a U.S class. In Japan, 9th grade in still a part of middle school. English is my students second language, so hope this letter exchange will help them improve their English communication skills. Also, it will allow them to learn about another culture. I think a small culture gift is a great idea.
