: "Switch to a new grade level has brought a need for new ideas!!"

Greetings from the USA~
I have been teaching in a small, low income, school distrist in Central California for the past 13 years. The majority of this time has been spent teaching 3rd grade. I was just informed that I had finally past my State Test (LOL) and will be teaching 4th grade next year. The good news is that I will take my current 3rd grade students to 4th grade with me. I am very excited about this because we will be able to pick up right where we left off once we return from summer vacation. Now the challenge comes to find new and exciting activities for these students next year. I thought writing to penpals would be perfect!! I expect to have between 25-28 students next year. I would like to use "snail mail" because most of my students do not own a computer. I would be interested in having my students write to others from different countries, but would also be interested in students from the United States. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please contact me and maybe we can use the next few months to do some planning. Thanks, Danna 3rd grade teacher, soon to be 4th grade teacher, Winton, California

Hello Danna!

My name is Gabrielle Garcia and I think my class would be perfect for your class to pal with. I too am a first year teacher in a low income setting and teaching 4th grade at a Texas school in San Antonio. Our state wide assessment includes a portion writing portion this year and many of my students are very behind in their skills despite the schools best efforts. I thought having pen pals would be a good way to add some spice to their practice. I wanted a school from aonther part of the country so that they could also do some compare and contrast throughout the year. I totally understand the whole "no computer" thing and really just love the idea of recieving letters in general. School starts for us on Monday, Aug 23. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are willing to go ahead with the exchange, I am very excited at the prospect.

Thank you,
Gabrielle Garcia

Hello!
I'm 4th grade school teacher (9-11 years old pupils) and I'm looking for amùerican friends for my pupils next year. I'm from France, next to Paris, and I think it could be very funny to make exchanges between our class. It could be a good way to discover each cultures and customs. If you are interessed in thaht kind of project, contact me!

Dear Danna, It'd be great to start a sort of cross- or intercultural project with you. I've got the kids from 8 to 10 yrs of age. They learn English at school and also study it in a private school "Linguist" .That's exactly where I work as a teacher in Russia in the city of Voroezh, smth about 600km South from Moscow.I like your idea andI'm quite aware of its practical value both for your kids and for my "monsters'.Hope to hear from you soon and ,please, feel free to ask me any questions you find interesting to develop the idea. Natalia,
