29093 - from Jessica (USA) - 2009-02-18 : "Snail Mail Pals Wanted!" Hello! My name is Jessica and I teach 2nd grade (7-8 years old) at an elementary school in New York City. My students have minimal exposure to the world outside of NYC and I would like to begin to provide a link for them. I know that February is not an ideal time to begin correspondence, so if you are interested in securing some snail mail communication for the upcoming 2009-2010 school year, that would be great too!

As a part of my unit plan I would like the children to understand that the world is larger than their town, so I thought one way I can do that is by having the children write to pen pals in another state. Currently I only have 5 students but that changes frequently. We would love to develop a pen pal relationship with your students. 29261 - Reply from keri (Great Britain) - 2009-02-27 hi, i am a teacher at Grasmere school in the UK. we are a special needs school for children with behavioural and emotional difficulties. we have 10 pupils aged 11-15 with an average mental age of 8years old, they are currently doing an "all about me" project in English to help them with their reading and writing. it would be nice for them to write letters to children in another country, it is rare in this day and age that children write letters, i disagree with everything being emailed constantly. if you are interested then please do get in touch with me via email and i will exchange our school address with you. thanks Miss Keri Archer Grasmere School Yorkshire UK
