Middle school : "Seeking Class to Exchange Letters with USA"

I teach Middle School Humanities at a small, private school in the United States, about an hour outside of Chicago. My students range in age from 10 to14, and each class consists of approximately 20 students. I would like my World Geography students in 7th grade (I am expecting 2 classes in 2018-2019) to exchange expository letters with student pen pals from a foreign nation. Ideally, their pen pals would be from different nations, but a class from a single country would keep the logistics more streamlined. We study political and physical geography, climate, natural resources, cultural customs, etc. We are in an urban area where some students have never left the city, let alone the country. I’ve never used pen pals before but believe exposure to someone their age could best relate what it’s like living elsewhere. Thank you.

Hello Kristina !

I teach ESL in a middle school in a small town of the north east of France, in Alsace. The region has a very rich historical and geographical background and culture. I have a group of twenty-three 14 year-old students who would love to correspond by post with American students. I've never tried penpals before either but I think it would be really great.

Let me know if you are interested.
Myriam

Hi Zavier,

This is the first time I'm trying out pen pals, and the students are really excited. I have recently linked up with a class in Germany for 7th grade, but the 6th and 8th grades are pretty jealous they don't get to participate. My 8th grade class would love to exchange letters with your students. There are approximately 35 students who are 13-14 years old on average. However, I'd like to keep it mail-based so I can better monitor what they're sharing. Let me know your thoughts.

Thank you!
Kristina

Hi Kristina,
I teach English at a private language school in Greece. My students, about 20-25 aged 10-15, have a very good level of English and would very much like to link up with an American school. The idea is for them to finally get the chance to communicate with a native speaker so as to improve their skills and learn about the American culture.
Please contact me if you are interested.

Best Wishes,
Zavier

Absolutely, that sounds great! We had a couple of exchange students visit last year, and the students were SO into it. Have you ever used pen pals in a class before? Thank you! - Kristina

Hello Kristina!
I am a Social Studies and English teacher at a private international school near Frankfurt, Germany. The majority of our students are German, but many international students as well, who have lived elsewhere until their parents' jobs brought them to the "Rhein-Main Area". We are a bilingual school, so the pupils can communicate easily in English. I'll have two 6th grade Geography classes and one or two 7th and 8th grade classes. (I'll also have one 5th grade English class who would love to have penpals.)
If you're interested, let me know, I'll send you our school website, my contact details and we can start a plan! Warm regards, Kelly
