Philosophy : "ATHEISM"

Don't you think that we would all be better off WITHOUT religion? Without the phony- boloney belief in God? I think that if everybody didn't hold such an orthodox belief in such a non existent thing, then the world would be happier. Isn't it what most wars are about? Okay, people are allowed to believe what they believe, but is it alright if people are killed because of it? Love to hear your comments, atheist or religious. Zoe .

Religion is human nature. People want to know the reason of life. It's been like that since the begging of humans. Humans want to know the meaning of life. All over the world, this happens. We just do want to know. And having a religion clears it out for us.

Well, I agree you on many points. Indeed, religion is most of the time the origin of a lot of conflicts, just like the crusades for instance. In a way, world would be better without any religion... Nevertheless, religion gives hope to people, it leads them on the right way, so we couldn't, to my mind, banish every type of belief. (PS: sorry for the faults, I'm french...)

You know what religion is a wonderful thing but with certain conditions. In the past during our evolution religion was essential to understand the reasons why we were on the earth what was the purpose of our life and what were our values. Obviously the human's need to get more power and control made leaders start to indoctrinate people so they can control them. Still today religious leaders try to do that. I live in (Quebec, Canada) and only grand-parents are still christian because people from younger generations rejected religion cause of the exageretions made by priests . Personally i respect all peaceful religions and not the ones that try to assimilate others. Religion is also a personal thing! if you believe in something you don't need to tell everyone you do it home in your room. don't try to include everyone in your beliefs so they become like you. I think spirituality is way better than religions tho and i think in the muslim religion there's an exageration of religious objects and clothes

people used to use religion to fill in for what they didnt know, like creation. Now people use relgion as a basis of their lives. why do people belive, it is all different in every case. I myself am Jewish. I love Judiasm because you are allowed to intrepret the old Testement in your own way.

Lsten Zoe, I don't think you can call my religeon "phoney-bolony." What gives you the right? Do you know 100% for sure that god isn't real? The evidence is all around us. Scientist say what they think about how we got here, but have you noticed there's a big 2 billion year gap between the planets creation and organisms appearring on the planets surface? Well in Christianity there's no gap. Every nation in the world was built on religeon, in fact, people moved to the Thirteen Colonies solely for that porpous.

I don't agree your point of view.
I think that if religion didn't exist, people would try to find other "problems" to fight about.
People are the real problem, because people think only of their own business..the most important thing for people is money,so if there wasn't religion, people would think of business,of petrol,of power...Even they would fight because of differences of cultures.
I think that people should have more faith in God because God and religion are the best ways to reach the peace.

Vanessa, you must have faith! Atheism is sin. Understand it. And pray.

I do not really think the world would be a better place without religion; while there are still fights about it, there are many other things people fight about and I do not think the world being rid of religion would make things better. Besides, while I am an atheist myself, I do understand that some people also find comfort in their religion. They get to join up with something, they get to feel safe- in a world where comfort can be so hard to find, why wish to take any away?

War uses religion as an excuse... If there were no religion, war would exist... So that's not the problem...
Just look from a different point of view:
Why do we NEED religion? Not to be scared of death, to hope someone cares about us, to pray for somethig and hoping a God will listen...
Even if there's no proof of a God's existence, even if the existence of different Gods at the same moment and different kinds of lives after death is impossible... someone really needs to believe in one... to think we're not alone...
So who cares if it isn't true? Tell a person that he or she is alive fo no reaons, that will die and never be concious again... he or she will be upset... Religion's here to make us happy and to make us sure that in the end there will be a reward...

If there was no religion in the world, people would find other things to fight over. To list a few possibilities:
-Territory
-Cultural Differences (many groups hate each other, yet they share religion, oftentimes this is a nationalistic sentiment)
-Fuel/Petroleum
-Food/Water Supplies (Perhaps water supplies will be a bigger issue in the future)
-Power
In a nutshell, religion is just one of the many things people fight over.

Please give me the 'real' reasons for the wars that blame religion then please, because so far I can't see any evidence.

I think religion is an important thing for many people, they believe in God because they want to hope, to hope that someone (God) is looking after them, after us all. And in a way I think that religion help them to live. And in wars religion is use as an excuse, humans would fight about everything, I think religion is just most convenient... (sorry for my English...)

Okay, but if religion didn't exist, then people would NOT be flying into towers, people would not be exploding bombs, and people wouldn't be annoying me all the time with their god damn preaching! So there are no excuses, okay, there is no way to wriggle out of this one. Without belief there is no way to create friction or cause arguments. But not only this, it's just obvious, god doesn't exist. No more theories, no more conversions, and no more prayers=no more wars, no more arguments, and no more dellusionists.

I understand your point of view but I don't agree...the religions are not the problemme, the people are..no religion ask the people to kill each other...I think that the religion is just the superficiel excuse for the humains to have what they want....so even without religions, wars will always exist as long as the humain exist....
