Hi Rumia !

I really liked the fact that you learned about islam, instead of believing in the prejudices. If everyone learn about islam, they will find out that it is strictly against the terrorism, and against the suicide.
If you understand the coran very well, you'll see that it contains many miracles, some thinks that could not be dicovered in a very remote time. There are even some truths which have just been discovered.
Terorrists are psychos. Not muslims, not belonging to any special race or religion.

I encourage you to learn more about islam, I think It's really a perfect religion, It is just impressive that the Koran mentioned everything , social life, judgments, even the inheritance..

More than that, Islam doesn't deny the existence of other religions, but says that it has been modified by people. Coran and "ahHadith" say we should treat the followers of other religions very well.
The Coran says that the one who killed one person, will be judged as if he killed all the people of the world. It's really necessary to know those things, and not believe in everything we hear, cause every one has a brain, and should use it !
Talk to you later :D

I totally agree with you Akram. We would probably do better practicing our own religions and looking for the many things that we (and those different religions) have in common and how that can bring us together while still maintaining our diversity but not our hate. For clarification, you said that "muslums say the same thing aout islam" could you please distinguish the difference between "muslums" and "islam"? I have always known it to be that those who practice Islam are Muslim. If this is not the case then I would like to know the difference. Thanks!

Akram: I think that what you say is very interesting. I knew that the vast majority of Islam taught peace, but I had never heard that origin of the actual word, I find it quite interesting. Thank you!

In regard to the entire thread: One thing I think is interesting is that most religions are peaceful and full of good-hearted people who want to do what is moral and wish for a secure life. However, there is a small minority within most religions that wish to dominate others and cause violence in the name of their religion. The point I am making is that all too often we judge groups by the exceptions, not by the majority. Hopefully in the future we can all learn more about each other and through understanding comes peace. I think message boards like these are a step in the right direction!

islam has good sides and has bad sides , like any other ideology , you can defend it and you can criticise it , personally i don't believe in it , but i know many good people who do believe in it, i don't think that being a good or a bad person has anything to do with your religious beliefs , you might use religion to justify some good or bad deeds you do , but with or without religion you would still do them anyway .

9/11 refers to the terrorist attacks that occurred on 11 September 2001 in the United States. The Islamic fundamentalist group Al Qaeda were determined responsible. The attack was I believe four commercial airliners being hijacked. One was flown into each of the World Trade Center towers (skyscrapers in New York City), one was flown into the Pentagon (sort of like US military headquarters), and the final one crashed in a field. Basically many lives were lost and it was only the second time a foreign attack had successfully landed in the US (with the exception of the early fights with the British regarding territory and independence) with the first being the Pearl Harbor attacks by the Japanese during World War II.
Hope this wasn't too much detail. Also to clarify, as Susan said, I do not personally believe all Muslims are terrorists, I was just providing reasons for the generalization that you made.

i think it just depends on the person. No matter what religion a group of people are, there will always be GOOD people, unfortunately, there will also always be some bad people. So, i dont think that just because someone is islamic it means they are terrorists, and it really upset me when that was the main idea some americans had due to the events of 9/11 and such :)

In short most religions have the same basic foundations (love other people, respect for the higher authority, don't kill others, etc). Most of the religions can be peaceful and make their believers feel good about themselves and their community and heritage. This includes Islam, I believe. The issue with any religion comes when the believers are extreme fundamentalists and feel that laws of states should only follow one religion and that there should be a mass conversion effort. This can happen with nearly any religion. However, as you point out today many people look at Islam in particular as the religion of terror. I believe this is because many in the West were introduced to the religion in the events surrounding the 9/11 attacks. Many people simply do not personally know Muslims and do not take the time to learn more about them.
I will leave you with this final note: Ignorance breeds hatred and it is only by getting to know other religions, cultures, and nationalities that the world's inhabitants can begin understanding and getting along.
Hope some of this made sense!
