I am interested in starting a pen pal friendship with an international school. I have done this project for 15 years now, and we have had pen pals from all over the world. We send written letters and learn about new friends as well as new cultures. We usually send about 3-4 letters back and forth throughout the year, and it is always an experience that the students never forget.

I'm writing a grant to travel to Greece and Germany this summer with our art teacher to explore the cultural and historical influences in Europe that inspired two pieces of literature that we study with our 4th graders: The Whipping Boy and The Lightning Thief. My name is Lucas Youngblood and I am a Middle School teacher in rural Humboldt County California - home of the tallest trees on planet earth 🌲
While our little part of California is rich in natural beauty and ecological diversity, the cities and towns in Humboldt County are sparsely populated and isolated from the many metropolitan hubs in our proud state. Many of our students have never left the county they live in and have little to no interaction with people who live more than 50 miles away from them.
I am hoping to pilot a pen-pal program during Summer School this year (July 12 - August 6, 2021) to provide our 10 students with an opportunity to communicate with students from somewhere (anywhere) else in the world. While we will be using these letters to work on individual writing goals, I am committed to keeping our correspondences fun, engaging, and authentic.
Here is what I am looking for in a teaching partner:

2 - Someone committed to sending letters promptly (our summer school is only 4 weeks long)

Je m'appelle Zach et je suis prof de français aux USA. J'ai des élèves qui apprennent le français, mais comme d'habitude, ils n'arrivent pas vraiment à parler français.
Ce que ce soit un échange entre des grands classes ou des petits groupes d'élèves, j'aimerais que les élèves ont la chance de parler avec des élèves en français et en anglais.
Mes élèves sont les élèves du lycée mais ils ne vont pas parler français trop bien. Quand-même, même en voyant les autres élèves réels du monde peut leur faire croire en ce qu'ils étudient.
Il y a environ 6h ou 7h de décalage entre la France et les États-Unis, mais on veut, quand-même, une opportunité pour partager juste des conversations.
Les conversations ne vont pas être trop élégants mais même des petits échanges de "comment tu t'appelles" ou "tu as quel âge" seraient vraiment bien pour les élèves. Mes élèves ne savent pas trop faire beaucoup... Des trucs *très* à la base (les numéros/chiffres, l'alphabet, je m'appelle, etc.)...
Mais si mes élèves font un échange je veux beaucoup que les élèves francophones soient du même âge, pour qu'ils puissent parler des trucs qui leurs intéressent.
Chaque élève de notre lycée a un iPad, et par consequence, ils peuvent facilement utiliser Zoom pour parler. J'aimerais beaucoup un prof qui peut aussi utiliser Zoom comme nous, ce que ça soit sur un ordinateur ou sur un iPad. |
