A bientôt.

Politician - "United Nations"

I aspire to work with the UN when I get older, though I'm not entirely sure what I'd like to do. I'd also like to help the government in my country, and help to get through to the closed-minded politicians we can get. I like to get all sides of a story before making a decision along with explanations on someone's views and trying to relate to the point they're making before making decisions, which is what I'd hope to convey to some of these said politicians. Some help in speech-making would help with this along with some help in improving my English. I already speak it fluently (as it was my first language), but there could definitely be improvement. Speaking in languages other than that of my country would also be very valuable for a position in the United Nations, or the US government.

I'm of a similar mindset, working in the UN, or rather, becoming one of the leaders of it (President of the Security Council, most preferably) is one of my main goals. I also agree that learning other languages would be an important advantage is achieving these goals - but then again, there is the setback of not having the resources for specialised lessons as I know some people have...

I had to comment. I live in the USA. The election for a new president takes place tomorrow. I am quite nervous. We have received absolutely no positive change under Barack Obama's reign. I can only hope that he will no longer be in office as of tomorrow. If anybody is interested in US politics, I would love to talk to you! I like to hear both parties views (Democrat/Republican. Or anybody else) Mind you, I am Libertarian, which is leaning more toward Republican. I hope everyone has a great day..

Politician - "Politics"

I guess the 2008 USA Presidential Election changed how I viewed politics. I want to go into politics because I'm sick of the unfairness and inequalities of the country. People can't marry because of who they love, lobbyists trying to bring more money to the haves and take away from the have-nots, prohibiting from the have-nots becoming haves. I want to make the world an equal and fair place.

5462 -
modify delete 5612 - Reply from Sylvia196 (USA) - 2011-03-08

While I agree with alot of what you are saying, it seems to me that you have a rather one-sided view of the situation. While I agree that the world of politics is a convoluted and corrupted place, I feel that that is not so much the fault of the individuals as the system. The system requires the individual to suppress people in order to acquire votes from the public. I feel as though the system of politics requires the politician to take a view on an issue, whether they have one or not.
For example, you brought up the issue of gay marriage. Most politicians take an extremist view on it. But, the majority of people with whom I speak hardly think of it as an issue. Shouldn't the politicians reflect that belief? I believe that this is the case with many controversial issues. In order for a politician to acquire an office, they must first advertise beliefs that they may or may not hold. I believe that all of this is the fault of the system, one of the many reasons that I wish to be involved in politics.

My country has beaten the world's record of the longest time without a government and might be ready to split up.
Sometimes when i hear some actual politicians i just got the feeling they're doing it wrong.
And the ones have got real ideas to step forward are'nt even listened to because the others spend their time critisizing them instead of searching solutions to the issues.

That is the kind of things that make me want to change my country, i just wish that when I'll be able to participate in their debates their will still be a Belgium.

modify delete 13213 - Reply from Alexandra7 (France) - 2011-11-10

I'm agree with you. In France, it's the same, opposition always critizes the action of the government. In the current context, i mean : the economic crisis, all the politicians should work together to find a solution to the issues. There is no real debate between them.
But i've heard that even if there was no government, Belgium works. Is that true?

It's not the case of sitting in an office dealing with people. First of all, everyone is interested in different kind of things. Personally, I want to be a politician so I can share and get my points across and help change my country for the better. Secondly, it depends on which area of politics you are involved in. Some sit in offices, others get out and achieve something. You can be a local or national politician, and in some cases become Mayor of a certain town. E.g, Boris Johnson, mayor of London.

I have never dreamed nor thought about being a politician. First and foremost, the time I enter politics, not all people are to support on what I aim for. Some may contradict, some may disagree, some may lie, some may cheat, some may even kill if they have to just for the sake of politics. I just like politics coz I like the part of it wherein one is exposed with different sets of people and getting to know them. I am fond of making speeches and I could definitely wake up the sleeping minds of the authorities. Well, that's if fate would make it happen. ^_^
