: "English speaking penpals from around the world wanted!"

Hello,

I am an outside school hours educator and am interested in offering the students in my care an opportunity to communicate via snail mail (handwritten communication) to other children around the world. We are located in Sydney, Australia and have children ranging in age from 5-12 years (Primary school) who would be keen to participate in this written cultural exchange.

I am a trained English teacher and firmly believe that the art of letter writing is becoming lost in this digital age and a skill that should be developed at an early age. I think it is also important for children to be able to converse with other children from around the world, to develop a sense of identity, appreciate the diversity between cultures and better understand the world in which we live.

Lastly, I would like to give the kids the chance to get excited about writing and reading through this wonderful concept as a means to boost their literacy and communication skills.

If you are interested in communicating with us, please email me.

Kind regards,

Vanessa

I have a class of 23 6 and 7 year olds. One of my students is a reluctant reader/writer whose parents are from Australia. I am hoping that setting up a penpal program with an Australian school will excite him and others to write more. We are from a small Hudson Valley village in New York State, about 90 minutes north of New York City.

Hi!
I am Federica Servente, an Italian teacher of Primary school. I’ m writing you because I am interested in connecting my Italian students with other students around the world. Having a pen pals creates opportunities for students to learn from one another, develop and improve English language. Students explore the communities where they live, indentifying similarities and differences among regions in their own country and between countries. Students learn about each other and develop collaborative relationships with peers.
I really would like connect Italian students from Reggio Emilia to your students, using Internet so that they could talk to each other and exchange ideas.
Can this be done with you and your students?
My students are 8 years old.
This is my e-mail: federica.servente@icspallanzani.org
I think that connecting students and teachers in different schools together be very rewarding experience!
Thank you very much. We wait for an email beginning our relationship!
Federica Servente

Hello Vannesa,
I'm Midori, teaching English to kids from 6-8 years old students in Japan. These students come to my class once a week after school. They are all very interested in foreign countries. Right now, I'm trying to find 4 boy penpals (snail mail) for my 4 boys.
They are in the 2nd grade of Japan school year. They are 8 years old. Our school year starts from April so they will soon be in the 3rd grade.
Will it be possible to match your boy students their age to them?
They all want a boy penpal their age.
I hope we could get a good match.

Best regards,
Midori

I totally agree with your educational philosophy. I teach 4th graders in New York City. I want my students to write letters and responses snail mail. In a technological driven world, I still want my students to learn the essence of appropriate writing fundamentals. Would love to have our students learn from each other!

Hi Vanessa,

We are currently looking for a long-term pen-friend relationship. We have pupils aged between 7-13. We have this kind of writing experience already. Our students write their letters themselves then we scan their letters and send them to you through email, because in this way we won't have to worry about the delay or the lost of our letters.
Please contact me if you are interested as well.

´m Zuzana and I have three classes of 10 year old and half class of 12 year old pupils in Nitra in Slovakia.
It´s state primary school.
In my country primary education starts when the child is six year old and finishes when the child is 15 years old. Then they continue on high schools.
For each subject there is a specialist.
Our subjects are: Maths,Slovak language and literature, Geography, History, English, PE,Art,Music,Biology, Technology,ICT...
More you can see on our home page https://zstopolovanr.edupage.org/ There is a part in English under School.
We would like to join you in writing, so the kids could learn more about the world.
We could do it by writing letters or by writing emails.
We were writing lettters to Turkish pupils and it was very exciting but I don´t mind emails, too.
Looking forward to your answer
Zuzana
