Middle school : "Wanting contact with students from Japan"

Hello,
We are year six teachers from Newcastle Australia, a large coastal town two hours north of Sydney.
I have about 100 students who are wanting penpals from Japan. Why Japan? We study a unit on Japan at the end of 2012 and we would like to have real conversations with Japanese students.
Perhaps snail mail would be the best option to begin with but blogs and wiki pages will be possible too.

Hi Melissa!

I'm from Newcastle too, but right now I teach primary school English in Nagahama, Shiga (about two hours north of Kyoto).

If any of your teachers are still looking, my English club would LOVE to write to your kids. I have 27 of them, ranging from ages 9 - 12. I would like to have a penpal for each of them, ideally from the same class (although I know that would be tricky).
