: "Colin in Australia"

I have a year 6/7 class who would like to correspond with students from another country. Our school is in a rural community so these students are keen to hear about life for those in other parts of the world. I would like to establish some collaborative activities in either science or maths or even just to have a buddy class that we can share our experiences with.

My name is Mary Howard and I teach the sixth grade (ages 11 - 12) in Grand Island, New York.

My students are beginning a project and I was wondering if you or your class be interested in receiving an e-mail letter with interesting facts about our area? In return, we would ask that you go online to complete a survey (in English) for our students about your school and community.

Please reply if you would be interested in this small exchange!!

Thank You!

Mary Howard

Hello, Colin.
I am Aki from Japan, Fukuoka.
I read your ad on the net today. I have been looking for some penpals in overseas who would like to correspondant with my Japanese students who are in the 8th year. They haven't had foreign penpals so I am sure they would be so excited if they could be penpals of your students. If you are interested, please e mail me. Thank you.

Hello! I am a new teacher who would like to give a wonderful opportunity to my students to communicate with native English people by writing email or instant messages. I have two classes: secondary 4 and secondary 5. My students are very nice and interested to learn about other cultures. They live in a very small village where they know everyone, of course almost nobody speaks English. Most of them never been in contact with native English people. They would like to know more about teenager's life in other countries and so forth. Their level of English is between basic and intermediate, therefore this exchange would help them to improve their English.
Thanks! They can't wait to hear from your students!

Hi Pauline, Thankyou for your post and yes, I would love to get some of my students corresponding asap. Individuals emails would be fine. I wonder if it might be easier to have a group of my students perepare a brief presentation to send and you may be able to match them with a student of similar age and interests. They have a double lesson in the computer lab every thursday and this would be an ideal time for them to put something together. O would really like to establish some collaborative type activities. I am currently working on a Masters in Education specialising in boys'education and one of my topics this semester is educational computing so am keen to explore this further.
Stay in touch.
Colin

Hi Colin
I teach in a 9-13 middle school in Leighton Buzzard which is 40 miles north of London. If you look at my teacher ad on this site you can see the link to our school website. I am Head of Year 6 (135 pupils) and also Head of Geography. I am sure you can link with my own class or a wider group. We have approximately 540 children in the whole school and currently 2 Australian teachers! Would you prefer to send class emails or individual ones?
I am keen to establish a link quickly if you are interested,
Look forward to hearing from you.
Pauline
