I teach Middle School Humanities at a small, private school in the United States, about an hour outside of Chicago. My students range in age from 10 to14, and each class consists of approximately 20 students. I would like my World Geography students in 7th grade (I am expecting 2 classes in 2018-2019) to exchange expository letters with student pen pals from a foreign nation. Ideally, their pen pals would be from different nations, but a class from a single country would keep the logistics more streamlined. We study political and physical geography, climate, natural resources, cultural customs, etc. We are in an urban area where some students have never left the city, let alone the country. I’ve never used pen pals before but believe exposure to someone their age could best relate what it’s like living elsewhere. Thank you. |
