Movie News and Reviews

Welcome to my blog movie news and reviews, my name is Alexis and I will be using this blog to write about new movie news and occasionally write reviews. I plan on using this blog to see how I like running a blog. A little bit about me, I'm 24 and I have always loved movies. I really like Wes Anderson's films, comic book movies (mostly marvel), and Pixar. I hope you enjoy this blog and thank you for visiting. Side note: I suck at writing and most of the time I have no clue what I'm trying to say, so my reviews will more than likely be horribly written and make no sense but I'm trying, and we all love movies here. Right? Feel free to leave comments in the guest book thanks again!

My inspiration for starting this blog was Collider Movie Talk.
Unfortunately, the show doesn't come on anymore but, another great movie show/ podcast is The John Campea Show. I've been following this guy since I was 14 and he's never let me down. He goes live on weekdays around 1pm est.

Did you guys watch the Oscars? Did you think Ellen was a good host? Did you retweet the Ellen selfie? Did you scream when you saw Jenifer Lawrence, Nicolas Hoult, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Evans, Brad Pitt, Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto etc.? Did your favorites win? Did the speeches make you cry? Do you wish you were there??(I DO)

I love this interview

Wes Anderson's H&M commercial
I am so happy this is a thing. Seeing as I love Wes Anderson and his movies are released pretty far apart, it was nice to have a little something with his signature trademarks to tie me over for a little while until his next movie. I couldn't help but smile through the whole commercial because it focuses more on Wes Anderson and the characteristics of his work than on the brand he is advertising. Even if you don't like Wes Anderson or you don't know who he is you should still watch it because is about Christmas and its heart warming (and Adrien Brody is in it).

It's award season time again!

After what feels like the movie industry spending the last 2 years regrouping and learning how to work through COVID, the 2022 Oscars feels like we’re finally back, to a new normal that is. I thought It’d take longer for streaming to dominate but here we are in a world where a movie, if lucky, is in theaters for a mere 2 MAYBE 3 months before hitting a streaming platform 1 month or so after its initial release. Kids today will never understand the struggle of having to wait 3-6 months AFTER the movie was no longer in theaters before it was released on DVD.

This year's selection of best picture nominees clearly shows that film is back, both the blockbusters we love to turn our brains off to watch and the thought-provoking Oscar-bait films most people love to hate.

Of the 10 my personal favorite is Avatar: The way of water, while I was wildly entertained and captivated by James Cameron's continuous world-building I don’t think this film is worthy of winning best picture. While I haven’t seen Women Talking, Triangle of Sadness, or All Quiet on the Western Front, my vote as of now would go to Banshees of Inisherin.

*SIGH* To no surprise I was pretty disappointed by the Oscars. Don’t get me wrong I’m super happy for EEAAO they definitely deserved most of the awards they got. Ke Huy Quan, Michelle Yeoh, and the Daniels more than deserved their flowers. I'm less than thrilled that Jamie Lee Curtis won over Angela Bassett however I would’ve been much more accepting of the defeat had the praise gone to Stephanie Hsu instead. The award that felt like a complete snub was Best Original Score. Now I haven’t seen All Quiet on the Western Font, and as much as I have my issues with Babylon, Justin Hurwitz definitely should’ve won that award. Even if Hollywood hated Babylon and didn’t want to let it win anything, Carter Burwell and Son Lux had scores that stood out more.

As it does every year the politics and a bystander effect -esque mentality of Hollywood's biggest night doesn't fully allow us as movie lovers and cinephiles to truly celebrate film.

This is by far the best DCOM I’ve seen in a really long time. It was refreshing to see actual young adults playing high schoolers and Disney’s choice to make it TV-14 made it feel more realistic for the subject of the movie. While the story is cheesy and cringe worthy at moments, shockingly I found myself genuinely laughing out loud a number of times. All of the typical YA/high school/rom-com tropes are there but well executed and overall a lot of fun. I didn’t expect enjoy this movie nearly as much as I did, but I’m a sucker for YA rom-coms and anything with Payton Elizabeth Lee.

This was the most heartwarming movie I think I’ve ever seen. It’s equal parts hilarious and touching and gets its message across without shoving too much in your face. I love that this movie laughs at people's ignorance about people with disabilities while also educating them and showing that they are regular people who were just born a little different. The story is simple yet enjoyable and the character development is just great to watch unfold.

SIGH.

I wanted to love this movie so so bad, which is why I gave it a 3 and 1/2 after my first watch. I defended this movie to people who said it was bad and I genuinely believed there was hope for a sequel.

Upon rewatching, the love that young Alexis had for the early 2000s power rangers was crushed by this mediocre remake. I now realize I was so blinded by my excitement for the movie and my love for the character Billy I ignored what my friends had been trying to tell me all along.

This movie is not good. Billy is easily, in my opinion, the best part of this movie and the only likable character. The casting was a miss for most of the rangers, the dialogue was super cheesy, and the go go power rangers theme was REALLY shoehorned in there. Above all else, this movie just took itself way too seriously. If you’re not a power rangers fan don’t even bother watching.

2 stars

There were too many moments where I couldn’t tell if I was supposed to cry from laughter or sadness. It felt really gory just for the sake of being gory. I get it, it’s a bear high on cocaine what more do you expect other than it going on a murderous rampage. I feel like this would’ve been better if they leaned all in on the horror OR the comedy because clearly, they can’t do both well. Nothing about this movie was particularly enjoyable. There were a few moments that genuinely made me laugh but there were not enough of those moments for me to recommend the movie, want to see it again, or even say I enjoyed it.

I loved the first Shazam. I know the movie as a whole isn’t great and it definitely has its flaws but compared to the other nonsense DC was releasing at the time I thought it was amazing.

Going into the sequel I was just ready to laugh and have a good time. For the most part, I got that but the good times were clouded by a cluttered story. The villain(s) felt all over the place, there was a lot of new information and Shazam's backstory to follow and the storyline with Billy didn’t feel as personal as it could have. Overall there was just a lot to digest in 2 and 1/2 hours. BUT it is really fun and entertaining so I’d give it a watch.

PS. Trailers are getting out of hand, I would’ve loved the cameo at the end had it not been spoiled for me days before :/

I've seen this movie 4 times, and every time without fail I've felt the same wonderful combination of happiness and sadness. The first time I saw this movie while watching the opening scene I was expecting it to be the same old traditional musical, which I don't really like, but boy was I wrong. I love that the first half of the movie is basically a love letter to the old musical, they're cliché and a bit unrealistic but still so beautiful. The fact that the opening scene was shot in one take makes me love it even more, it flows together so flawlessly just thinking about it makes me smile. All the musical numbers flow into the storyline beautifully, they fit like puzzle pieces and don't make you feel like "oh now they're singing again". The music in the movie is also amazing, Justin Hurwitz is officially one of my favorite composers. Personally, I feel there are 3 main characters in this story: Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), Mia (Emma Stone), and the music. I consider the music a character because of how impactful its presence is when they use it and when they don't use you notice it, how could you not, and it does this without completely taking you out of the movie. Then there's the ending of this movie... without going into spoilers, I don't think I've ever been so okay to not get what I wanted at the end of this story. I could go on and on about this movie forever but in final words, Ryan and Emma, AMAZING, fit their roles perfectly. I feel this movie just did everything right and thank you Damien Chazelle.

I chose to see this over Rouge One, call me crazy but it was worth it! Manchester by the Sea is probably my favorite movie of 2016. This movie was equally sad and funny and just overall beautiful. The end had me really confused and a little angry at first but after letting it settle in my brain I could not stop thinking about it. While watching the movie having the flash backs in the middle had me a little confused but of course at the end of the movie it all made sense. Overall I thought this is movie was amazing, I don't know if I can watch it again because some parts are just too sad to see multiple times but I'm willing to suffer through it. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who is interested in seeing it you will not regret it.
