Welcome back, a brief recap of the last few days:
- Great, if entirely unexpected, birthday
- My BAF (best adult friend)Sandi who is also my nanny, announced that she would be returning (happy dance!)
- Swimming, swimming swimming
- School shopping
Well, now I am in a FINE mess. What crisis have I awakened is the dual-headed monster that I imagine most normal girls face. I invited my BFF Aleja to come with me and my brother and his friend (I will not even latinize his foul name, it is too much of an honnor to be given the protection. His name is Jesse, and he is an a** in the highest degree. He lies like crazy (A side note: normally I love a good liar and thief. It is the most underrated art form in history. Lies, you see, drink from seas of creativity, so pure the mere scent inspires some of the world's greatest minds. It is only a person possesing a talent as old as time who can perfect this secret. Thieves, meanwhile, are built for stealth and deception, a modern day ninja.) and enjoys being the little brat he is to the full extent. There is only one rival to my hatred of him, but more on that later.) Well, she didn't respond for a couple of days, presumeably because she didn't see the email. But, of course, my mind played the nastiest of tricks on me, causing me to assume (one of the worst human capabilities in history, assumption is) that she wasn't coming. Under this deductive reasoning, I decided to invite someone else in her place, my BGF (best guy friend) (who I think I'm in love with.)Okay, let's set the record straight: I don''t like him for his looks, which are decent. I don't like him because he's popular or because he's good at something I'm not. I like/love him because he's who he is: a smart, funny, clever guy, who is exceptionally hard-working and extrodinarily kind. He's normal, but anything but mundane and boring, brave with only the tiniest fraction of a drop of vanity, ambitious but in the best way possible. But he best part about Benicio is that he's my friend, and that will never change. And if he's reading this, and he'll know who he is when he does, Benicio Girí,you know who I am, and it's all true, what you just read. And I don't care if we ever date, because I just need you in my life. You don't know it, but you've saved my life. I'll tell you why later, but still, you should just know.
Now for those of you at home scratching your heads wondering how we all met and if he knows/likes/loves her and all that. So here it goes:
When I was in 2nd grade, I was obsessed with performing arts, in particular directing and screen/playwriting. My mother sought to encourage this, and soon presented me with the proposition of a new extracuricular activty: Destionation ImagiNation. For those of you who don't know, Destination ImagiNation is an anual competition where students are divieded into teams by age and choose one of six challenges to compete in. Now, there's just one rule that's out of the ordinary: No Adults Allowed! Everything you use, say, do, create, everything has to be entirely your own. I belive that this promotes a bit more pride, knowing that you did this all yourself. Now, I am a 5-year veteran. The first year was that second grade I was introduced to my mega-obsession from October to May, and we made off with third. That first team was okay, with the only complication being that me and my other BFF, who we'll call Nina, were sorta the runts of the team, and we just got kinda shoved off to the side. Luckily, and unluckily at the same time, the next year the teams changed, and Nina and I got split up, neither of us on the same team.
Now here's the funny part: Both Nina's and my team did the same challenge. We sorta hung around together all day, and part of the day we went to see some of our competition, and what we saw was a pretty good skit about wolves from a team in our town...
None of us placed well that year, but the next year we split up again and Nina and I landed on the same team together with a boy from an out-of-town private school (which I'll tell you even more about later) and a boy and a girl who looked strangely familiar. Upon getting to know each other, I realized that they were the wolf skit kids!
That year, that brought one of the greatest moments of my life: we took first, sending our team, the DI5, to States. We did kinda wreck it at states, but oh well.
Unfortunately, the out-of-towner, whose name will be Elon, left, and he was replaced by a girl we'll call Abagial. I won't say much about Abagial because of things better left unsaid, but let's just say that I didn't like her. Anyway, this past year, Abagial left, and we got not two but three replacements for her. (Side note: This year was complicated because I went out of the district and into private school, but more on that another day) I personally got along great with them. (We'll call them Yago, Neto, and Natividad)The reason they weren't a spectacular fit was because they were incredibly smart, technically, but they just weren't that incredibly creative.
So that's how I met my BFFs, Nina, Aleja, and Benicio.
But anyway, the problem is that five minutes after Benicio accepted, Aleja did, too. So I have to figure this out. According to a person writing under the pen name Slappy says that I should tell them it was a mistake, which may or may not work out. The really scary thing she wants me to do is to tell them both to avoid a fight. What you're going to learn about me is that I am shy as hell offscreen. You see with ink and words, I am a free girl. But it is my mouth that fails me. A wise man once said, “Sometimes when I'm talking, my words can't keep up with my thoughts. I wonder why we think faster than we speak. Probably so we can think twice.”. Indeed, my mind is always light years away from the spoken realm. There's a great divide between what I think and write behind my mask of pixels and pen patters, and what I can do when I am shamed by an unmaksing. Maybe that's why I like Benicio and by extension Aleja and Nina: no matter what, they won't really care how flawed and deformed I am behind my mask, because they know that in the end I am anything but some boring old ordinary girl, and I'm happy to be like that.
So this is me, the DI girl with the best friends you could ask for, signing off.
(Oh, P.S., I got a new haircut today and I look totally hot if I do say so myself, and I do. It doesn't look that differen from what it was before, so I hope he notices :)
