History - "Victorian England"

Hello, I’m really fascinated by Victorian England. I read all of Oliver Twist before watching Oliver so I think that’s what got it started… I have a fountain pen and one of my favorite films is Enola Holmes (I also read the books). HOWEVER all the sexism, classism etc from the Victorian era really bugs me so at the end of the day I would not want to live there.
Anyone else interested by Victorian England?

History - "The Arab Caliphate"

The initial core of the caliphate was the Muslim community — the Ummah, created by the Prophet Muhammad at the beginning of the VII century in Hejaz (Western Arabia). Initially, this community was small and represented a proto-state formation of a super-religious nature, by analogy with the Mosaic state or the First Communities of Christ [source not specified 613 days]. As a result of Muslim conquests, a huge state was created, which included the Arabian Peninsula, Iraq, Iran, most of the Transcaucasia (in particular, the Armenian Highlands, the Caspian territories, the Colchis Lowland, as well as the districts of Tbilisi), Central Asia, Syria, Palestine, Egypt, North Africa, most of the Iberian Peninsula, Sindh.

The word caliphate (Arabic: خلليييييييي - Khalīfah — "heir", "representative") means both the title of the caliph and the vast state created after Muhammad by the Arab conquerors under the leadership of his "caliphs" (governors).

The era of the existence of the Arab Caliphate, together with several subsequent centuries of the heyday of general Islamic science and culture, are referred to in Western historiography as the Golden Age of Islam.

The Righteous Caliphate (632-661)
Main article: The Righteous Caliphate

The territory of the Caliphate in 632
After the death of the Prophet Muhammad in 632, a Righteous Caliphate was created. It was headed by four Righteous caliphs: Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, Umar ibn al-Khattab, Uthman ibn Affan and Ali ibn Abu Talib. During their rule, the Arabian Peninsula, the Levant (Sham), the Caucasus, part of North Africa from Egypt to Tunisia and the Iranian Highlands were included in the Caliphate.

History - "Cleopatra"

Cleopatra- was Queen of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt from 51 to 30 BC, and its last active ruler.[note 5] A member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, she was a descendant of its founder Ptolemy I Soter, a Macedonian Greek general and companion of Alexander the Great.[note 6] After the death of Cleopatra, Egypt became a province of the Roman Empire, marking the end of the second to last Hellenistic state and the age that had lasted since the reign of Alexander (336–323 BC).[note 7] Her native language was Koine Greek, and she was the only Ptolemaic ruler to learn the Egyptian language. What do you think about her? Do you know some interesting facts about ancient Egypt?

First, all China did in WWII was get invaded by Japan and had to have someone save them (USA, France, USSR, England). The first place goes to USSR, which had the most deaths, and eventually captured Berlin. Second place goes to the USA, they donated a lot of weapons and sold loans to the allies, and later in the war, sent troops to help re-take France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, capturing west Germany. 3rd place to Britain, not too far behind the USA. The last place belongs to China and France, both of which got instantly crushed and of no use.

Poets Horace and Virgil, the philosopher Seneca, and the eminent orator and philosopher Cicero. Imperial Rome had a more regal appearance that demonstrated the state's might. The streets were widened, and magnificent structures like the Pantheon and the Great Circus (Coliseum) were constructed. There are baths and triumphal arches. Aqueducts were constructed as a system. Establishment of institutes of learning. Prior to the Academy "House of Sciences" in Baghdad, 830 students first attended grammar schools in Basra, Kufa, and Baghdad. Cairo's first university opened its doors in 972, while Cordoba's 27 madrasahs had students studying astronomy, medicine, algebra, and philosophy in the 10th century. In the Moroccan city of Fes, a university was established in 859.

According to a former essay by the Russian philosopher V.S. Solovyov, among all significant peoples, the idea of a national messianism emerges. This thought is only beneficial if it takes the form of Christian universalism, however. I.V. Kireevsky, P.Ya. Chaadaev, and N.Ya. Danilevsky all expressed the view in the 19th century that Russia will have a significant impact on European society and establish a high level of culture. In his Pushkin address from 1880, F.M. Dostoevsky put this notion forth and connected it to the nature of the Russian people.

modify delete 20981 - Reply from Jintong75 , 16 yrs (China) - 2022-12-30

I think the answer must be Mao-Tse tung. Most of the evaluation around the world (even in China) describe him as a Autocratic tyrant who killed the democracy in China and bring death with hunger to China. Someone also compared him with Stalin. But the truth is he brought freedom, democracy and richness to Chinese people, First, China finished the industrial base in his age. And the level of democracy was the highest in Chinese history during his age, especially during the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution. At that time, if the government of somewhere was corrupt, people there had the right and power to recall the corrupt officials or even organise a committee to replace the government. And the persecution to the intellectuals is a lie, though some professors had moved to the countryside but their living conditions were much better than the local people. Actually, Chinese people began to suffer from corrupt and bureaucrats since his death and his conservative enemies who wanted to slave Chinese people and gather money and power took over this country.

That’s a very interesting question. I thought about it a long time and I think that in the German history Count Stauffenberg is a very interesting and underrated character. He tried to do an assassination to kill Adolph Hitler. He failed and was killed by the nazis after it but I personally think that too few people know about him.

History - "i think there's a mistake in the introduction of Chinese history on this website"

According to this website,China was founded in Qin Dynasty. But as i know, the emperor of Qin is Ying Zheng. Before that,he was the prince of The vassal states of Qin,but The vassal states of Qin is belong to the Dynasty zhou.there're emperors in the Dynasty zhou, then,The Emperor of Zhou enfeoffed the vassals,The vassals managed their respective fiefs, and Zhou Tianzi unified the leadership of the vassals.Later, when the vassals had ambitions, they began to fight for power. From then on, the emperor gradually fell into disuse. But at this time, officially, the Zhou Royal Family still ruled the country, unti Ying Zheng usurped the throne and unified China. The Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties are clearly recorded in ancient documents. Among them, the Xia Dynasty was the first dynasty in Chinese History; the Shang Dynasty was established after Shang Tang Destroyed Xia; and the Zhou Dynasty was established after King Wu of Zhou conquered Zhou and destroyed Shang Dynasty. Before the Xia Dynasty, the famous Chinese historical records called forelock recorded that there was the period of Yellow Emperor Entei Chi You's occupation, and also the period of Yao, Shun and Yu after the unification of the tribes in China. Great Flood was credited with the abdication of the throne to Yu the Great, thus began the first dynasty of China —— The Xia Dynasty, in which Yu the Great's son usurped the throne, ended the abdication of the tribal alliance and adopted the hereditary system of the feudal throne.
so i think,China should start with the xia Dynasty(about2070~1600BC),not221BC

History - "History of Armenia"

Believe it or not, the History of a country named Armenia is fascinating.

They say modern Armenians have the least genetic distance to the Armenians from the Neolithic, Bronze Age, Urartian, classical and medieval ages. Urartian (Biainili) age in Armenia started in the 9th century BC when the Armenian urban settlements were united into a kingdom.

Armenia's alphabet is unique, it covers many secrets, all representing natural phenomena.

Armenian illuminated manuscripts cover Armenia's history, tell of their ancestors, keep their memory alive.

Armenia had several dynasties, each of which has had its unique influence on modern Armenia.

Different Armenian kingdoms were forced to fight Rome, Persia, Arabs. Armenians had to endure the Turkish invasions, the Mongol invasions, the Tatar invasions.

Armenia had been in the way during the Roman-Persian wars, Turkish-Persian wars, Russian-Persian wars, Russian-Turkish wars.

Armenia's capital, Yerevan, was originally known as Erebuni and built by the Armenian king of Biainili (782 BC).

Even though Armenians were under the rule of different foreign kings after the fall of the Armenian kingdom of Artashessians, they still fought and gained a new kingdom.

Some people say it's incredible that Armenians still exist. From a certain point of view, it is incredible.

The many wars that took place in the territory of Armenia, the Turkish, then later Tatar (i.e. Azerbaijani) invasions to Armenia took the lives of millions of Armenians.

After the Turkish invasions, when they fell under Turkish rule, the only way to protect themselves was to fight in self-defense battles.

After the internationalization of the Armenian Question (liberation of Western Armenia and its reunion with Eastern Armenia), Armenians were exposed to mass murders.

In the 1890s', around 300,000 Armenians were slaughtered, 200,000 Armenians escaped to Russia, 150-200,000 Armenians escaped to other countries. The 1,500 Armenian civilians from Van (20,000 Armenians were killed there) tried to escape to Persia but were attacked on the way, and only 30 Armenians survived.

After the Armenian Question was once again raised in 1912-1914, the mass slaughter of Armenians in 1915 followed.

The massacres were implemented by the decision of the Committee of Union and Progress, and the central government gave the instructions of how the killings would be carried out to the provincial governors and army commanders.

About 1,5 million Armenians were raped, tortured, and murdered, the rest scattered around the world. To this day, they can't return to their ancestral lands and homes.

In 1918-1920, Turkish-Tatar invasions in the provinces of Utiq and Northern Artsakh of Armenia took the lives of thousands of Armenians.

Chicherin stated in his letter to Lenin that the lands were originally Armenian, but Tatars (i.e. Azerbaijanis) settled there after massacring the indigenous population.

They settled on those lands and then continued into the mountainous region of the province of Artsakh of Armenia.

Only in March 1920, 40,000 Armenians were murdered in Shushi alone (a city built in the late 17th century by Armenians to protect the Armenian population).

In 1988-1990, millions of Armenians were deported from different cities in Azerbaijan (Sumgayit, Baku, Kirovabad (known as Gyanja, but originally Gandzak), Shamkhor, Shamakhi, Mingechaur, Khanlar, Getabek, Dashkesan, Shaqi, Maraga). Many were raped, tortured, and murdered. In 1991, thousands of Armenians in Mountainous Artsakh (known as Nagorno-Karabakh) were murdered or deported.

However, it seems the history of Armenia is coming to an end. Lately, Azerbaijan's president, Ilham Aliev, promised to destroy them [Armenians] completely.

Doesn't sound so fascinating anymore.

More details can be provided if needed.

Hello ! I read your article about the Armenians. You write well and had a great brief history of them. They have had a long and difficult history, and like any peoples and culture, will not "disappear". Even though some countries like Turkey and even the Russians would love the Armenian culture to disappear as they try to take our the lands occupied by the Armenians - they will survive and their culture will adapt and absorb their new history. Armenia is as adaptable as the Jewish culture in history.

Well, despite my country's relatively young age (especially compared to that of China), we have quite an eventful history. Putting aside major, national events like the American Revolution, the Civil War, and the two World Wars, the individual states have interesting histories, too. For example, my home state (Florida) was settled by the Spanish in 1513. They established the first permanent city in America, known as St. Augustine, which still stands today. The French also settled the western part, and the state fell into British hands in 1763, eventually becoming a U.S. state in 1845. Florida is still home to a large, vibrant Hispanic community.

Hi? nice to meet.

I have never seen an introduction to the history of Korean history.

I do not have enough time to read all of this book,
If you have a page or theme that you want to cover, I might be able to talk with you.

History - "Do you need help with History?"

Hello! I am good at history and I will be happy to help someone, especially Poland and Spain, but I will be happy to explore my knowledge on a different topic. If anyone needs my help, write to me.

It's best to write on private, because I'm not always present here.

History - "Help with final paper"

Hi! My name is Anna and I need your help :)
I am writing a study about the position of theological faculties in the Third Reich.
Unfortunately, I don’t have enough money to go to Germany myself and work in German libraries and archives. But I believe in miracles! :) Therefore, if you study in Germany and know the history of your university well, if you can share books and articles on this topic, please write me an email (annamordzilovich@gmail.com). You are my only hope! I'll be glad any help! Thank you in advance, I hope for your understanding :)

Good topic. In Hitler Germany, Hitler presented himself as equal to ad greater than Christ. I read a book called Hitler's Pope about the rise of Pope Pius XII. During the Naz, with Pius as Pope, the Catholic Church was well aware of Jewish persecution in Germany, but did nothing to raise the issue to public attention. The reason is that the Catholic Church reached an agreement with the Nazis to protect the Church's own interests and degree of freedom with Germany. Mnany groups in the West were aware of the Nazi oppression of teh Jews, but remained silent to protect their own economic interests in Germany - including the Jewish people involved in Hollywood and the Entertainment business.

Ah, the man who managed to change the face of human technology. The one who harnessed the power of electricity. I myself believe he was one of the greatest minds in our history. While he may have been an odd figure in public his true talent came evident when absorbed in his work in the lab.
