| My name is Gillian Maggs. The reason I am contacting you is that I am currently working as the mother-tongue English teacher at the local senior school, LIceo Poliziano, San Bellarmino in Montepulciano, Tuscany in Italy. It is a mixed school with students aged from 14 to 19 years. I work in the language school of Liceo Poliziano. The students study English, Spanish, French, Italian and German and every year we organise an exchange with one of the languages they study. In the first year (year 10/11 in the UK system) we organise an exchange with an English School. For many years we have had a very successful language exchange with JAGS (James Allen's Girl's School) in Dulwich. Unfortunately they are unable to continue with the exchange so we are looking to start working with a new English senior school in 2019.
I was wondering if your school may be interested in starting an exchange programme with our students. We would be interested in sending a number of our students to UK in 2019, probably ~March or April or October or November and to receiving your students in return, ideally during the same months. We are a mixed school and would like to offer the opportunity of participating in the exchange to all of the students in our first year. Not all of the students choose to participate in the programme but we would anticipate approximately 20 to 30 students annually may be interested, the numbers vary depending on the year's intake. The trip is normally for one week. At least 2 of our teachers would accompany the students to UK. Our students would stay with your students in their families and vice versa when your students come to Tuscany. We organise daily visits which are lead by our teachers, normally to visit famous landmarks or museums etc. The students return home every day to their English host families. On Sunday we usually leave our students with their host families for a traditional family day when it is optional what each family decides to do.
I hope you do not mind me contacting you in this way. If there is a Head of Language or some other language specialist within your school that you prefer me to communicate with regarding the above possibility I would be more than happy to do so if you could provide me with their contact details.
If the above opportunity is not of interest to your school and you have any contacts for other schools that you feel may be interested in considering an exchange with our Italian school I would be most grateful to receive their contact details.
Many thanks for your kind consideration.
Yours sincerely
Gillian Maggs |
