| Yes, First Nations are the original peoples of Canada, and they are the ones of United States too.
There's a difference between Quebec City (500 000 inhabitants) and the province of Quebec (8 000 000 inhabitants). Quebec City is the capital of the province of Quebec.
I don't think Quebec should split from Canada, but there's decidedly many differences between English Canadian culture and the French Canadian identity from Quebec. This is why I recognize Quebec as a nation (because I love my Canada so much), but I don't want it to become an independent country, and 70% of Quebecers think like me.
I'd definite myself as a proud member of the Canadian people, but from French Canadian identity and whose nation is Quebec. Instead of seeking the “freedom” of the Quebec province, I think we should seek the freedom of Canada from the American superpower.
We're always constrained to align with them in the questions of international affairs. Canada made a disastrous mistake in joining American Army during the Korea war, and most recently those of Iraq and Afghanistan. |
